JOB DESCRIPTION – Reentry Mentor/Case Manager

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director, Executive Director

Hours: 30 hours/week

Reporting: Assistant Director, Executive Director

Compensation: $16.50/hour non-exempt

Work Location: TSC, Community

SUMMARY

New Leaf – New Life (NLNL) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides support for individuals currently incarcerated or recently released from incarceration. Our vision is “transformative justice, personal growth, advocacy and accountability.” We believe in supporting our neighbors that have been impacted by justice involvement. In this, we work to empower people towards self-advocacy; supporting one another in the spirit of solidarity, not charity. As a volunteer-focused, grass-roots organization, training individuals toward self-advocacy, multiple pathways of recovery and community empowerment is a critical area.

DUTIES

  • Serve as a Reentry Mentor/Case Manager – providing support, guidance, and case management to our reentry mentees.
  • Competency with computer tasks including Google docs, Microsoft Word & Excel spreadsheets.
  • Responsive to email and phone call outreach requests; having the ability to assist others in what agencies and organizations best suit immediate needs.
  • Responding to jail and prison letters.
  • Greeting clients at the door with the ability to meet people where they are, being able to adapt easily to various social situations with potential de-escalation tactics in mind.
  • Assisting with social media projects such as website updates and other media outlets.
  • Assisting with data entry, statistical research and formulating tracking spreadsheets.
  • Assisting with community events on behalf of the organization.
  • Exchanging letters at the Monroe County Correctional Center (if permissible by jail staff).
  • Assisting with in-jail workshops (if permissible by jail staff).
  • Various office duties (ensuring cleanliness, sorting donations, managing volunteers, answering the phone, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with being personally impacted by incarceration and/or justice involvement and/or self-identification as being in recovery.
  • Basic computer skills that include the ability to use the internet to conduct research, data tracking and spreadsheet management capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals and personality types.
  • Strong communication and multi-tasking skills.
  • Able to problem-solve in a high-paced environment.
  • Willingness to learn about community resources & work to build relationships with other community organizations, partners and agency contacts.
  • Commitment to the organization’s transformative justice mission.
  • Certified as a peer recovery coach (CPRC) or the willingness to engage in training to gain the credential.
  • Willing to agree to probationary period of (60) days to ensure your adaptability to the work environment, office skills and communication standards
