Warehouse Manager

Reports To: Store Manager Last Modified: 11/21/25

Role Overview:
Help Create Life Change Through Second Chances

At New Horizons Thrift Stores, our cause is to help create life change through second chances, one purchase, one life at a time. As a Warehouse Manager, you’ll be a part of that mission by overseeing all backroom and warehouse operations to support the smooth flow of donated goods through the store. This position plays a key role in ensuring that donations are processed efficiently, and donor experiences are positive.

At the Canon City location, it is the Warehouse Manager’s responsibility to ensure that store departments—such as clothing, shoes, linens, and furniture—have the materials they need to keep sales moving.

Additional tasks may be assigned at times by your supervisor. Consideration will be given to your current workload and duties.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

LMA: Provide leadership, management, and accountability for the following direct reports,

  • Warehouse Assistant

Warehouse Operations:

  • Furniture Support: Partner with the Furniture Manager to maintain organized furniture storage and sold-item areas. Load excess inventory into storage trailers for seasonal slowdown and coordinate trailer movement as needed. Test appliances and move approved items to the furniture room.
  • Donor Service: Provide fast, professional, and friendly service to all donors, ensuring that every donation experience reflects our mission and values.
  • Pickup & Delivery Coordination: Maintain excellent communication with the pickup and delivery team. Anticipate their needs, provide accessible empty bins, keep the furniture area ready for loading or unloading, and help ensure quick turnaround times.

Donor Relations:

  • Prompt and Courteous Service: Greet donors quickly, help unload donations, and thank them sincerely for their support. Call for backup when multiple donors arrive to ensure timely service.
  • Positive Experience: Represent the thrift store’s mission through excellent customer service. Maintain a friendly and helpful attitude—your approach sets the tone of how donors perceive our organization.
  • Donation Acceptance: Use good judgment when evaluating items for acceptance. Kindly decline items that are not sellable, or offer disposal for a reasonable fee (e.g., $35 for a sofa). If in doubt, consult with the Store Manager, Assistant Manager, or Furniture Manager.
  • Items Not Accepted: Do not accept non-working TVs, printers, waterbeds or frames, stained mattresses, stained or hairy sofas, or general household trash.

Warehouse Maintenance:

  • Organization and Cleanliness: Maintain a safe, clean, and organized warehouse and donation area. Prevent clutter and ensure items are processed promptly. Sweep floors regularly and enforce cleanliness standards among staff.
  • Exterior Appearance: Keep the outside donation area, truck dock, and surrounding spaces swept, neat, and free of debris. Ensure the donation area always reflects the professional and caring image of our organization.

Production Department Support (specific to Canon City location):

  • When 11 pallets of recyclable electronics accumulate, notify management to schedule pickup.
  • Storage: Manage the storage of processed and unprocessed items in the mezzanine and carport. Keep track of what is in storage in these areas.
  • Electronics Testing: Test donated TVs and determine whether they can be sold or recycled. Route working units to the household goods team and non-functioning ones to recycling.
  • Processing and Baling: Manage textile and cardboard baling operations safely and efficiently. Keep bale production caught up and arrange transport to the barn when ready.
  • Linens & Shoes: Ensure a steady flow of materials to and from the linens and shoes production areas. Move full bins into the workspace, remove empty bins, empty trash dumpsters as needed, and prepare transport bins for our Pueblo and COS locations. Keep shoe recycling bins ready for swap-out.
