Introduction to New Heights The mission of New Heights Charter School is to prepare all students for college. Period. We were founded in 2016 by an ambitious team of educators to change the face of urban education and reduce the troublesome transitions between middle school, high school, and college. We are the first wall-to-wall early college public charter school in Massachusetts, serving 735 students in grades 6-12.New Heights Charter School of Brockton serves approximately 734 students in grades 6–12, with a student body that is predominantly Black/African American (approximately 85%), followed by Hispanic/Latino (8%), multi-racial (5%), and smaller percentages of White and Asian students. The school maintains an even gender distribution and enrolls a high proportion of high-needs students, with 58% identified as low-income, 17% as English Language Learners (ELLs), and 12% receiving special education services. Overall, about 72% of students fall into one or more high-needs categories, reflecting the school’s commitment to supporting historically underserved populations. One hundred percent of our students, most of whom come from our home community in Brockton, earn a minimum of 12 college credits with our higher education partners. We are looking for a passionate leader to continue New Heights success. This leader should have 10 years of experience as a school leader preferably in an urban school setting. Along with this, a master’s degree and a principal certification are required. Why New Heights is Different We believe that every student can succeed and thrive with the proper educational preparation and support. Our rigorous academic model offers a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, which is the key to future success in college and beyond. Our culture empowers every student to value and take responsibility for their personal academic journey. While all students earn some college credit while in high school, more than half of New Heights graduates earn 60 plus college credits. The Position of Principal We are seeking an experienced school leader to join our team and guide our school into our next charter term as a leader in early college education. The individual we seek understands the value of community and a strong, collegial culture. They are enterprising and value a team approach to identifying solutions to challenges. They are equally at home in the classroom, in a meeting with parents, in front of the leadership team, and serving our community. We seek a leader who will take the time to know our school today and lead us into a bright future tomorrow. This individual must be good at instructional design and team management. The ability to thoroughly assess current processes and protocols and make recommendations for potential changes, over time, will be critical. A minimum of 10 years in a principal role and previous experience in leadership positions, principal certification, and a master’s degree in a related field are required. The ideal candidate will have classroom teaching and/or curriculum development experience in addition to creating and maintaining a strong student, family, and staff culture. Given the dynamic and multifaceted nature of a principalship, we are seeking a visionary and agile leader who thrives in complexity. This individual is a skilled multitasker, equally confident working independently and collaboratively, and empowered to delegate with purpose. The ideal candidate embraces innovation, adapts with intention, and demonstrates the discernment to balance structure with flexibility; leading with both clarity and creativity to meet the evolving needs of the school community. Commitment to Culturally Responsive Teaching and Practice Our next principal will demonstrate a deep understanding of and unwavering commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, core to the New Heights mission and vision. They will champion the power of diverse voices, recognizing that inclusive collaboration strengthens the entire community, and will ensure that these values are actively reflected in the daily practices of our faculty and staff. Culture Setting Our community is often reshaping itself to find the right tools we need to address the changing needs of our diverse students, faculty, staff, and families. This nimbleness and ability to pivot are both a strength and a challenge to the creation of a secure community. We seek a principal who knows how to maintain and grow a strong community and will hold all staff and students accountable to the highest standards. Facility in Managing a Skilled Faculty and Staff Our new principal will be skilled at motivating and leading a complement of talented educators and staff, value their work, and respect their contributions at all levels. Our principal will be responsible for hiring qualified staff in collaboration with our Chief Academic Officer to develop and oversee the ongoing professional development of all staff. Excellent Communication Skills At New Heights, we value thoughtful, responsive decision-making that is communicated with clarity, transparency, and professionalism to our entire school community. Our next principal will be an attentive listener who seeks to understand before acting, while also serving as a strong and effective advocate for meaningful stakeholder engagement. They will foster open lines of communication, build trust across all constituencies, and ensure that students, families, and staff feel heard, respected, and empowered as partners in the school’s continued growth and success. Resource Management Our principal will possess a strong understanding of public school finance and demonstrate confidence in managing and overseeing multiple budgets. They will approach fiscal decision-making with transparency, strategic thinking, and a commitment to aligning resources with the school’s priorities. Data-Driven Decision-Making Our new principal will bring an understanding of data-driven decision-making strategies to support the growth and sustainability of New Heights for years to come. This is a full-time, year-round position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
