What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dean of Students position at New Heights Charter School of Brockton?
New Heights Charter School is Massachusetts’ only public school that involves all grades (6-12) in the Early College approach. Nearly all our 11th and 12th graders are full-time students on a college campus with younger students earning college credits at the school. You will join a committed, creative team of educators who provide academic and social-emotional support to young people coming from high-need backgrounds ensuring they are college and career ready. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the Culture and Climate Team, manage and implement school policies, systems and routines to promote a safe school and positive culture.
- Plan and maintain school wide positive behavior and incentive systems in collaboration with the Student Affairs team and grade-level leads.
- Collaborate with the various school teams to develop a positive, structured achievement-oriented, and Early College culture.
- Counsel students and work closely with parents to help students to assume responsibility for behavior and understand the consequences of their decisions.
- Conduct discipline and suspension hearings in accordance with established school and district procedures.
- Develop, document, maintain ongoing behavioral intervention plans.
- Maintain consistent communication with staff, students, and parents
- Maintain visibility with students, staff, parents, and the community, attending school and community functions regularly to demonstrate a genuine interest in the students and staff.
- Reinforce the effective use of restorative practices to improve student behaviors
- Assist in implementing restorative tools and systems that build meaningful relationships, support positive student behavior and peacefully resolve conflict.
- Proactively circulate throughout classrooms and hallways during the day to gain valuable context on student behavior and help support positive school culture.
- Schedule and monitor detention (twice a week) and Friday weekly extension.
- Coordinate events and celebrations including culturally diverse activities that affirm the international heritage of all students and their families.
- Use or quickly learn to use PowerSchool, DeansList, and the Google Suite (Gmail, Google Classroom, sheets/docs/slides, etc.)
- Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships
- Engage in effective verbal and written communication
- Ability to work effectively with a strong professional staff and an involved community.
- Comprehensive knowledge of evaluation, supervision, curriculum, professional development, scheduling, technology, and the needs of Junior High and High school students.
- Maintain flexibility and a willingness to learn or try new things
Salary : $80,000 - $100,000
