New Hanover County is seeking an experienced Human Service professional to join the Community Justice Services department as a Youth Support Technician. This position provides support to youth participating in community service, restitution or drug and violence prevention programming. The Youth Support Technician facilitates positive youth development while promoting and enhancing positive life and social skills. Provides mentorship to youth and builds positive relationships to promote safe and healthy choices.

9:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Tuesday - Saturday. Must be flexible to adjust schedule as program needs change.
Must be available to report for emergency work assignments during emergency situations.
Salary Information: The hiring range begins at $46,360. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
Bilingual candidates are eligible for a differential (5%) when performing Spanish language interpretation during the course of work.
New Hanover County Offers
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
In compliance with G.S. 153A-94.2(b), if this position requires an applicant for employment to work with children in any capacity, the county must require the applicant to undergo a criminal history record check conducted by the SBI for all offers of employment made after October 1, 2025. These checks must be performed in accordance with G.S. 143B-1209.26, which authorizes the SBI to provide fingerprint-based state and national criminal record checks to cities and counties. Additional information on how to complete this required check will be provided to the selected candidate after an offer of employment is accepted.
Essential Duties
- Guides youth and their parents through their court/ diversion ordered community service hours and ensures completion.
- Assigns, works with, and supervises the youth in the field at community worksites, while they complete their hours. Ensures compliance with court-ordered obligations.
- Files and sends mid-monthly and monthly progress reports to their court counselors or referral source to keep them updated on the youth's progress.
- Assist with the coordination of transportation and scheduling of community service activities.
