The Bartender is responsible for providing excellent customer service by preparing and serving a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in a professional and efficient manner. This role involves ensuring that guests are served responsibly, creating a welcoming atmosphere, and maintaining a clean and organized bar area.
Responsibilities
- Greet and welcome guests in a friendly and professional manner.
- Take beverage orders and make recommendations based on guest preferences or specials.
- Prepare and serve drinks, including cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages, accurately and in a timely manner.
- Engage with guests, create a positive and energetic atmosphere, and ensure guests have a memorable experience.
- Handle customer complaints or concerns in a professional manner, ensuring guest satisfaction.
- Upsell products (e.g., premium liquors, specialty cocktails, wine pairings) and promote daily specials.
Bar Operations
- Prepare, garnish, and serve drinks according to standard recipes and guest preferences.
- Maintain knowledge of current drink trends, new products, and cocktail techniques.
- Ensure the bar area is organized, clean, and well-stocked at all times, including replenishing garnishes, glassware, and liquor.
- Clean and sanitize bar tools, equipment, and workstations during and after shifts.
- Ensure all drinks are served with proper presentation and appropriate glassware.
Cash Handling & Transactions
- Process customer payments accurately, including handling cash, credit cards, or tabs.
- Maintain a balanced cash drawer, process tips, and provide accurate change.
- Keep track of tabs, handle closing checks, and close out customers at the end of the night.
- Ensure all transactions are processed in compliance with company policies and procedures.
Inventory & Stock Management
- Monitor and manage the bar's inventory, ensuring an adequate supply of liquor, mixers, and other bar essentials.
- Assist in tracking inventory levels and place orders when supplies are low.
- Ensure proper rotation of stock to prevent waste or spoilage.
- Report any broken equipment or inventory shortages to the manager.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Adhere to all alcohol service laws and regulations, including checking IDs to verify the legal drinking age.
- Serve alcohol responsibly, ensuring customers are not over-served or intoxicated.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, ensuring that all equipment and surfaces are sanitized.
- Follow all food safety regulations regarding the preparation, storage, and serving of beverages.
Team Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with other bartenders, servers, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff to ensure timely and accurate drink orders.
- Assist with opening and closing duties, including setting up and breaking down the bar area.
Requirements
- Previous bartending experience (at least 1-2 years) in a restaurant, bar, or nightclub is preferred.
- Experience with cocktail preparation and knowledge of various drink recipes is highly desired.
- Knowledge of wine, beer, and spirits, as well as popular drink trends, is a plus.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage a busy bar environment, especially during peak hours.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle difficult or intoxicated customers.
- Basic math skills for handling cash and processing payments.
- Knowledge of alcohol laws and responsible beverage service practices.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Formal bartending or hospitality training is a plus but not required.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods and move throughout the venue, including kitchens, dining areas, and storage facilities.
- Ability to lift and carry items including trays of food and drink weighing 20-30 pounds regularly. Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, including food products, supplies, and equipment.
- Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching to access storage areas and inventory.
This position requires 100% on-site attendance.
