Traveling Solar Commissioning Electrician

Description:

The Traveling Solar Commissioning Electrician will be responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, commissioning, and closeout of commercial-scale solar systems, while supervising and training an apprentice technician (when assigned). Core scopes of work include preventative and corrective maintenance, commissioning procedures (pre- and post-energization), performing punch list walks, and compiling detailed reports of work performed. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and troubleshooting ability to ensure systems are safely and effectively brought online and maintained throughout their lifespan and contract timelines.

Note: NESCO currently offers approved apprenticeship programs through the Department of Labor. All candidates hired for our field positions are required to participate in the apprenticeship program, whether as an apprentice or a mentor. More information regarding the program will be shared by the hiring manager during the interview.

Main Responsibilities:

• Perform preventative maintenance and corrective service visits to ensure systems are performing safely and effectively
• Perform third-party and internal commissioning scopes, including standardized pre- and post-energization procedures, cold commissioning, and hot commissioning
• Conduct punch list walks in coordination with the QA/QC team
• Compile detailed reports for all scopes of work performed and submit them to the management team and clients in a timely manner
• Train apprentice-level technicians in the safe and effective execution of all responsibilities within the scope of the role

Other Responsibilities:

• Work with the operations and special projects teams as team lead and/or in support of the assigned team lead on warranty, repower, and repair projects as needed
• Lead the prefabrication work on EPC projects
• Review recloser relay control files with the engineering team to ensure proper operation per asset owners requests
• Coordinate with utility, asset owner, and management teams for energization, facilitate witness tests, and prepare for capacity testing once PTO is given
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Minimum of 6-12 months field experience with commercial solar O&M and commissioning
• Valid state issued journeyman electrician license
• OSHA 30 or ability to obtain as required
• NFPA 70E or ability to obtain as required
• Commissioning and Troubleshooting experience of all major DAS/ SCADA, MET station, and UPS components
• Commissioning and troubleshooting experience of inverters and single axis tracking systems
• Commissioning and troubleshooting experience of SEL brand or similar relays
• Accountability and strong commitment to company safety, culture, and core values
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong problem solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Procore experience is a plus
