Position Overview
The Staff Accountant supports the Finance Department in fulfilling its accounting, reporting, and compliance responsibilities to stakeholders, including shareholders, employees, and directors. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audits, and ensuring strong internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare daily correspondent bank reconciliations
- Post transactions to the General Ledger
- Process Accounts Payable transactions
- Prepare workpapers and supporting documentation for internal and external audits
- Perform daily and month-end General Ledger reconciliations; investigate and resolve discrepancies by collaborating with internal teams to ensure timely clearance
- Set up and maintain accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed assets
- Prepare financial and management reports as requested
- Compile schedules and documentation for annual external audits, internal audits, and regulatory examinations
- Perform ongoing financial control activities in accordance with internal control policies and procedures
- Provide backup support for other accounting staff through cross-training
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Prior experience in financial institution accounting and deposit operations policies and procedures strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable regulatory requirements
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and initiative
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact regularly with senior managers, officers, and executives
- Ability to assess workflows, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend process enhancements to increase efficiency
Salary : $70,000 - $75,000
