Job Title: Crisis Coordinator
Department: Children’s Mental Health Program

Position Summary

The Crisis Coordinator works within Community Crisis Intervention and Mobile Crisis Response programs to support youth and families in Niagara County experiencing mental health crises. This role provides short-term crisis intervention, coordinates responses to urgent situations, and ensures appropriate follow-up, stabilization, and linkage to ongoing services.

Department

New Directions’ Children’s Mental Health Program provides community-based services designed to support youth and families experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges. Services focus on stabilization, crisis response, and connection to long-term supports that promote safety and well-being.

Pay and Benefits

  • Starting Pay: $22.27 – $23.40 per hour, based on education and years of relevant experience
  • Paid Time Off: 3 weeks PTO in the first year
  • Holidays: 14 paid agency holidays

Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities

Community Crisis Intervention (CCI):

  • Maintain a caseload of approximately 14 youth.
  • Provide short-term crisis intervention services including case management, referrals, crisis planning, prevention strategies, and behavioral interventions.
  • Collaborate with Niagara County Mental Health, SPOA, and Crisis Services on referrals and case progress.
  • Utilize trauma-informed and solution-focused approaches.

Mobile Crisis Response:

  • Respond to crisis calls received through Niagara County Crisis Services during business hours.
  • Ensure coverage is arranged during time off.
  • Maintain a monthly schedule to support 24/7 Mobile Crisis coverage.
  • Provide on-site crisis assessment and intervention.
  • Develop immediate safety and crisis plans with youth and families.
  • Provide training, support, and supervision to Mobile Crisis Child Specialists.
  • Conduct follow-up calls and home visits as needed.
  • Connect families to appropriate services, including linkage to CCI when applicable.
  • Submit required documentation within 24 hours of crisis response events.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively with youth, families, staff, and community partners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to respond effectively in crisis situations.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license, adequate auto insurance, and compliance with agency driving policies.
  • Ability to pass annual physical for Category 1 job classification.
  • Compliance with agency safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work, human services, counseling, psychology, education, criminal justice, or related field with at least 2 years of experience in case management or in-home treatment
    OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human behavioral science field with 4 years of relevant experience
  • Preferred experience in community-based crisis response or within Children’s Mental Health Programs
  • Supervisory experience preferred
