POSITION SUMMARY

The Laboratory Tech 1 performs high complexity diagnostic testing and additional activities to support testing services. This position requires specialized scientific and technical knowledge essential within the laboratory disciplines. Under lab supervisor or manager guidance, this position supports the laboratory team by assisting in troubleshooting, maintenance, and general laboratory operational duties.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform moderate and high complexity, routine, and non-routine testing to provide accurate data for downstream analysis.
  • Assist with reagent and specimen receiving, processing, and storage.
  • Prepare reagents and samples as needed.
  • Understand and follow all company SOPs.
  • Manage specimens and document all workflow from collection to processing and storage.
  • Perform patient testing completely, accurately, and within established timeframes
  • Accurately document results in laboratory notebooks and properly store result data in study binders.
  • Research as needed to remain knowledgeable on technical and scientific developments regarding current and future testing in the laboratory.
  • Participate in all relevant quality control and quality assurance activities.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment or instruments and participate in troubleshooting as applicable.
  • Document all quality control, preventative maintenance, and calibration activities.
  • Assist in onboarding new instrumentation and assays.
  • Complete all necessary training and proficiency testing to maintain technique.
  • Assist with supply inventory.
  • Assist with activities to support the Laboratory Information System and software changes in the laboratory.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree (chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science) to include at least 16 semester hours of chemistry or biological science courses (Candidates possessing a non US acquired degree must have equivalency evaluation performed by a CLIA approved entity.
  • Minimum of 1-year of lab experience and/or appropriate course work (ie: analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, et cetera).
  • Must be able to accurately demonstrate pipetting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to learn new software as required.
  • Willingness to handle, process, and test various human derived sample types including but not limited to: whole blood, plasma, serum, nasal swabs, and bulk fecal samples.

  • Hospital laboratory work experience or experience handling patient specimens

WORK LOCATION, SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION:

  • On-Site Only - NOT a remote position
  • Monday through Friday
  • 8:00a – 5:00p
  • *Some flexibility may be requested for weekend or hours other than 8-5 to accommodate laboratory project testing needs on a rare occasion.
  • Hourly pay to be commensurate with experience & education.
