This is a position for an undergraduate student research assistant. The student will be participating in research on the microbial community of marine invertebrates.
This position is for 29 hours a week at $18 per hour.

The responsibilities of the Undergraduate Research Assistant include, but are not limited to the following:
- Processing collected animals or settlement plates by photographing said animals or plates, preserving samples, keying out and identifying individual organisms, and preparing samples for DNA analysis.
- Preparation of organismal and/or environmental DNA for sequencing, consisting of:
- DNA extraction
- PCR amplification of the DNA
- Gel electrophoresis
- DNA barcoding
- Normalization of DNA concentrations
- Entering and managing data
- Assistance with analysis and manuscript preparations for submission to peer-reviewed scientific journals
- Apply laboratory techniques (e.g., DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis) with accuracy and consistency
- Analyze and interpret biological and environmental data
- Maintain organized and accurate research records and datasets
- Contribute to scientific writing and communicate findings for academic audiences
- Must be a student at NCF, have taken Foundations I and II, and have an enthusiasm for lab research.
- Must have strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Punctual, reliable, and eager to contribute to efforts in the lab.
- Experience doing gel electrophoresis, performing PCR, use of a micropipette, and familiarity with sterile technique.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel/Word, and Google Sheets/Docs.
