Information Technology Generalist
Reports To: IT Manager
Position Summary:
The IT Generalist is responsible for supporting and maintaining the company’s IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, and networking systems. This hands-on role manages the IT help desk and ensures system uptime, end-user support, and the implementation of IT best practices across office and production environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage IT help desk operations, ensuring timely resolution of user issues and strong customer service
- Install and configure operating systems, software releases, and system upgrades
- Evaluate and apply patches and fixes; resolve software-related issues
- Support end-user needs including troubleshooting, account maintenance, and training
- Monitor and analyze system performance, including network and disk utilization
- Configure fault-tolerant systems and proactive monitoring to maximize uptime
- Perform IT inventory assessments, documentation, and procedural updates
- Conduct hardware and software evaluations to support business goals
- Participate in team initiatives to automate tasks and streamline IT processes
- Install and terminate cabling and fiber as needed for IT infrastructure
- Communicate clearly and effectively with coworkers and management
- Maintain professionalism and a positive attitude in all interactions
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the I.T. Manager or senior IT leadership
- Work outside normal production hours as required for system maintenance or implementations
Qualifications
Desired Skills and Experience:
- BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience
- 4 years of experience with Microsoft Windows administration in environments supporting 40 users
- 3 years of experience in Windows Server environments (2003/2008/2012/2016)
- Experience with Active Directory and Group Policies (software deployment, security, login/logout scripts)
- 2 years of experience operating and managing Windows Server Infrastructure
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)
- Practical exposure to storage and data management solutions, Intel-based servers, NAS technologies
- Familiarity with remote user support via VPN
- Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving abilities
- Excellent customer service skills
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Willingness to take initiative and support projects outside core responsibilities
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Office Setting / Food Production Setting / Warehouse Setting
- Must comply with all safety policies, including the use of PPE where required
