Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor and the Director, provides a developmentally rich and age-appropriate educational program for toddler and preschool students. The focus of the curriculum includes developing strong self-help skills, developing strong social skills and supporting school readiness skills.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: The list of essential functions and physical requirements is not exhaustive and may be supplemented, as necessary. Not all functions may be performed by the incumbent.

1. Provides a safe and effective learning environment for children between the ages of 18 months to 3 years (toddler program) and 3 to 5 years (preschool program).

2. Plans , develops, and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum in a variety of areas (i.e. literacy, numeracy, dramatic play, creative arts, science, nutrition, music, language arts, psychomotor and perceptual development, community and cultural concepts, health, safety, toilet learning, and character development.).

3. Supervises children and maintains environments to meet federal, state and agency standards of health, safety, cleanliness, and educational standards.

4. Models effective adult-child relationships and positive guidance techniques for children, parents, college students and observers.

5. Communicates regularly with family members, promotes family engagement and is sensitive and responsive to relevant family issues and special circumstances.

6. Uses diverse approaches to learning that are evidence-based and developmentally, culturally and linguistically appropriate.

7. Creates a learning environment that respects children and family’s cultural and linguistic backgrounds and supports dual language learners.

8. Records observations and administers assessments (state and federal) regarding the child’s progress and development.

9. Maintains student files to ensure compliance including Community Care Licensing and California Department of Education funding terms and conditions.

10. Performs daily health and safety checks for students.

11. Provides classroom training and leadership to support work study college and high school students, and volunteers in subject areas according to a prepared curriculum.

12. Meets staff attendance requirements.

13. Attends all scheduled parent, staff meetings and workshops.

14. Maintains appropriate professional boundaries with students and families.

15. Works independently when the Site Supervisor/Director is not on-site.

16. Performs other duties as assigned consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.

· Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate educational program that will enhance the cognitive, social-emotional and physical development of young children;

· Learn appropriate special education teaching techniques through collaboration in working with the Special Education Teacher;

· Effectively solve practical problems;

· Coordinate and direct the work of others;

· Lead work study students, student teachers and volunteers in appropriate teaching techniques;

· Effectively communicate in both oral and written forms;

· Facilitate productive group discussions;

· Maintain a confident, but patient and courteous attitude toward all persons in the course of work;

· Work with and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse group of individuals;

· Remain calm and patient in stressful situations;

· Maintain the security and confidentiality of specified records and information;

· Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions;

· Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action;

· Learn County office organization, operations, policies and objectives;

· Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others;

· Prioritize and schedule work;

· Maintain accurate records and prepare reports;

· Operate standard office equipment including a computer and assigned software.

· Mental acuity to perform these tasks, to make sound decisions and judgments in the sphere of assigned duties and to make determinations relative to the effective performance of the tasks;

· Facility and stamina to sit, stand, squat, or kneel for extended periods of time;

· Facility to see, hear and move quickly to provide safe supervision;

· Facility to perform gross and fine motor skills and activities with children;

· Facility to see and read printed materials, with or without vision aids;

· Facility to hear and understand speech on the telephone, and at normal room levels;

· Facility to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal conversation in person and on the telephone;

· Manual dexterity to operate a telephone, computer, copier, calculator and other commonly used office equipment;

· Mental acuity to perform simple mathematical calculations, using a calculator;

· Physical agility to bend, stoop, walk on pavement, climb stairs, and to reach overhead;

· Kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies;

· Physical strength and agility to push, pull, lift and carry any object weighing up to 40 pounds (small children, activity tables, chairs and equipment).

Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience, which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities, may be qualifying. We reserve the right to determine if a candidate meets the qualifications.

· Must possess a valid California Child Development Teacher Permit or appropriate California Teaching credential.

· Three (3) college units in Infant/Toddler coursework. This is required for Toddler program.

· Valid Pediatric First Aid and CPR (including EMSA) or ability to obtain within first six (6) months of employment.

Other Requirements: These requirements must be met prior to beginning employment and will be requested upon job offer acceptance.

· Must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States

· Fingerprint and Background clearance

· Child Abuse Index clearance through California Department of Social Services

· Megan’s Law sex offender registry clearance

· Valid Tuberculosis (TB) clearance

· Physical examination (POPPS: Post-Offer, Pre-Placement Screening)

· Vaccination records for influenza (annually), T-Dap and MMR (SB 792)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $52,374.00 - $70,200.00 per year
