Overview: We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and emotionally intelligent Medical Assistant to join our a fast-paced and growing psychiatry practice located in the South Hills area. In this role, you will support mental health providers by performing both clinical and administrative duties, helping to ensure that patients receive respectful, timely, and high-quality psychiatric care. Duties
- Greet and assist patients in person and over the phone in a professional and courteous manner
- Gather and verify insurance coverage, collect copays, and help process claims paperwork
- Handle medication refill requests and coordinate with pharmacies
- Prepare and manage correspondence, reports, and other documentation
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail, faxes, and email communications
- Maintain a clean and organized front office and waiting area
- Coordinate with medical staff to ensure timely and efficient patient care
- Assist with billing, coding, and other administrative duties as required
- Maintain patient confidentiality in strict accordance with HIPAA and mental health privacy laws
- Schedule patient appointments and manage calendar for providers
- Take and record vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, weight, pulse)
- Document patient history, current medications, and mental health concerns
- Administer screening tools (e.g., PHQ-9, GAD-7) as directed
- Maintain and update patient records and data in our electronic health record (EHR) system
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a medical office or mental health administrative setting (management experience preferred)
- Completion of a Medical Assistant training program
- Leadership, managerial, and/or supervisory experience
- Proficiency with computers and electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong comprehension and analytical abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills, especially with sensitive topics
- Must be highly organized, proactive, a self-starter, and capable of independent decision-making
- Positive attitude, team-oriented, and able to adapt in a dynamic environment
- Knowledge of psychiatric medications and HIPAA regulations, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
