Role Description
Senior Project Manager is a highly advanced professional recognized for exceptional leadership in project planning, execution, and client management. This role is responsible for independently managing, directing, and delivering the firm’s largest and/or complex architectural projects, often across multiple building types and sectors. With the highest level of accountability for project performance, management of team assignments and hours, and client satisfaction, this role serves as both a leader and trusted representative of the firm’s overall vision and mission.
Operating with strategic autonomy and structured oversight in collaboration with the Director of Project Management and the project assigned Principal, the Senior Project Manager takes ownership of project strategy, resource allocation and hours utilization outcomes, scheduling, and client relationships, while ensuring effective coordination of internal teams and external consultants. This individual is a primary authority on project delivery and supports the firm’s Director of Project Management in mentoring, guiding, and elevating the performance of other project managers, and project teams. This position demands a comprehensive understanding of firm resources, project delivery methods, and proactive engagement in advancing firm-wide excellence in project management practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and accountability for overall project execution, including scope, deliverables, schedule, budget, client satisfaction, and allocation/coordination of project staff resources with the firm’s Studio Director.
- Primary client liaison and trusted advisor, in collaboration with PA/AP(s), responsible for managing communications, expectations, and relationships throughout the project life cycle.
- In collaboration with Director of Project Management, reinforce and support project management standards, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistent, efficient, and profitable project delivery.
- Support Principal of Professional Development and participate in firm-wide initiatives and mentorship.
- Oversight and coordination of all project efforts - administrative, design, and technical (both drawings and specifications) to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects.
- Active management of client budgets, internal budgets, schedules, programs, project communications, documentation, and project team assignments.
- Preparation of strategic project plans to support successful delivery, risk mitigation, and long-term project performance.
- May prepare or assist in fee development, proposals, additional service requests, and contracts, and support business development efforts with targeted clients.
- Representation of the firm with clients, consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and the public.
- Review completed reports, drawings and specifications, calculations, and other project documentation for accuracy, QA/QC, and completeness.
- Oversight, mentorship, and guidance of other project managers and other staff, promoting professional growth, accountability, and alignment with firm values.
- Lead and/or collaborate with PA/AP(s), during the Bidding/Permitting, Construction Administration, and Project Close-Out phases, may include:
- Support, review, and Issuance of Addenda, Bulletins, Construction Change Directive, and Architect’s Supplemental Instructions (ASI) in collaboration with PA/AP(s).
- Review or advising on key shop drawings/submittals, RFIs, and field review/meetings for conformance with design intent, and contract requirements.
- Pay application reviews, punch list preparation and review of project close-out documents.
Skills Qualifications:
- 12 or more years’ experience
- Licensed Professional Architect
- Professional degree in Architecture preferred
- Expert-level experience in architectural project management, including delivery of complex, large-scale projects.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and coordination skills with project stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of budgets, schedules, contracts, and project delivery methods.
- Highly proficient in managing time, priorities, and workload across multiple project phases while maintaining quality and efficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor staff and lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Deep understanding of building codes, construction standards, and permitting processes.
- Advanced knowledge of CAD/REVIT, Bluebeam, Mosaic, and SpecLink programs.
