Senior IT Project Manager (Contract-to-Hire)
Location: New Haven, CT
Position Overview
The Senior IT Project Manager provides end-to-end leadership for complex, high-impact technology initiatives. This role is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering multiple concurrent projects while ensuring alignment with organizational strategy, timelines, and budget. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in both predictive and adaptive project management approaches and can seamlessly tailor methodologies—including Agile, Waterfall, Iterative, and Hybrid—based on project needs. This role partners closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and leadership to drive successful outcomes, manage risk, and ensure quality throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, and successful delivery of complex, high-risk, and high-visibility IT projects.
- Select, adopt, and adapt appropriate project management methodologies based on project context and organizational needs.
- Ensure effective project governance, including change control, risk management, quality assurance, development, and testing processes.
- Manage project scope, timelines, budgets, capital and operational costs, and resource allocation.
- Align project objectives with organizational goals and ensure clarity of purpose across all project teams.
- Partner with Solution Managers to staff projects with the appropriate skills and capabilities.
- Communicate project health, progress, risks, and issues through clear, timely, and effective status reporting.
- Lead vendor selection efforts using established RFP processes and manage Statement of Work (SOW) engagements as needed.
- Serve as an Agile leader and coach, enabling teams to continuously improve delivery and performance.
- Facilitate Scrum ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, backlog grooming, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Track and manage sprint velocity metrics, risks, and dependencies.
- Foster collaboration, support decision-making, and resolve conflicts while promoting shared accountability.
- Partner with Product Owners to help define product vision and roadmap.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Deep expertise in project management methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, Iterative, and Hybrid approaches.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage shifting priorities.
- Solid technical understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, and cloud-based solutions.
- Proven ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies.
- Demonstrated success managing project scope and owning outcomes end to end.
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience delivering technology-focused projects in complex environments.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Hands-on experience with Agile practices such as User Stories, CI/CD, automated testing, TDD, and paired programming.
- Ability to influence across all organizational levels, including executive leadership.
- Proven track record fostering a collaborative, transparent, and customer-focused team culture.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 10 years of project management experience, including at least 2 years working in Agile environments.
