What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Engineer position at NES Fircroft?
We are seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer to provide technical assurance for capital and maintenance projects at a large refinery and chemical complex. In this role, you will also perform civil and structural engineering for smaller projects. Typical project scopes include steel structures and concrete foundations supporting process equipment, piping, and electrical and instrumentation systems, as well as civil infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems, pipe racks, water supply systems, and marine terminals.
The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience supporting similar projects within the refinery, petrochemical, or chemical industries and must hold a current Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Texas. Strong working knowledge of ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318, and other applicable ASCE, ACI, ASTM, API, and PIP standards is required. Experience interpreting geotechnical reports, topographic and subsurface surveys, and crane lift plans is also essential. Candidates should possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English and be proficient with current engineering software and common computer applications. The successful candidate must be able to quickly learn and effectively use multiple company-specific software applications and internal systems to support daily responsibilities.
Additional experience in field/construction support, marine structures, rail systems, HDD pipelines, sheet piling, and building renovations is highly desirable.
Key responsibilities include reviewing and approving drawings and calculations prepared by external engineering firms, participating in project team meetings and design reviews across multiple teams, recommending alternative design solutions, evaluating constructability, providing status updates, assisting with the resolution of construction issues, and building strong working relationships with local civil and structural engineering firms. This is a full-time, on-site contractor position based in Port Arthur, Texas, operating on a 9/80 work schedule. Regular remote work is not available for this role.
