Role Description:
American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) and American International College of Arts and Sciences - Antigua (AICASA) seek a visionary, strategic, and dynamic leader to serve as its Vice President of Admissions. This senior executive is responsible for the strategic direction, oversight, and management of the entire medical student admissions process. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of medicine by recruiting, selecting, and enrolling a diverse, academically excellent, and mission-aligned cohort of students each year.
The Vice President will ensure the integrity, fairness, and transparency of the admissions process in full compliance with guidelines, accreditation standards, and institutional policies. This role demands a unique blend of strategic vision, data-driven decision-making, operational excellence, and a deep commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Vision:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive, forward-thinking strategic enrollment plan that aligns with the medical school's mission, vision, and goals.
- Analyze national trends in medical education, applicant data, and competitor strategies to inform decision-making and maintain a competitive edge.
- Set annual enrollment targets and develop strategies to achieve them, including managing yield rates.
Admissions Operations & Process Management:
- Oversee the entire applicant lifecycle from inquiry and application to selection, offer, and matriculation.
- Ensure the efficient, equitable, and holistic review of all applications.
- Lead the committee-based admissions process, training and guiding faculty and staff reviewers on holistic review principles, unconscious bias, and institutional priorities.
- Serve as the primary custodian of all applicant data, ensuring confidentiality and security.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Recruit, mentor, manage, and professionally develop a high-performing admissions team.
- Foster a collaborative, data-informed, and mission-driven culture within the admissions office.
- Manage the departmental budget, resources, and technological systems (e.g., Salesforce CRM, Microsoft Office application software).
Outreach, Recruitment & Relationship Management:
- Design and implement innovative national and international recruitment strategies to attract a broad and diverse applicant pool.
- Represent the School of Medicine and College of Arts and Science at national pre-medical conferences, college fairs, and pipeline programs.
- Cultivate strong relationships with undergraduate advisors, pre-health committees, and community-based organizations.
- Partner with the Marketing and Communications department to develop a compelling brand and recruitment materials.
Outreach to Underrepresented and Disadvantaged Students:
- Champion initiatives and integrate inclusive practices to connect with underrepresented-in-medicine and second-career applicants with diverse backgrounds into every facet of the admissions process.
- Develop and sustain targeted outreach and pipeline programs to support applicants from underrepresented-in-medicine and second-career students with diverse backgrounds in medicine.
Compliance & Accreditation:
- Ensure all admissions practices and policies are in strict compliance with university policies.
- Prepare all necessary data and reports for internal leadership and external accreditation bodies.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Master’s degree required; MBA strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive leadership experience in admissions, enrollment management, preferably within a medical school, graduate-level healthcare schools or a highly selective graduate/professional academic environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in holistic review practices and a proven track record of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Deep knowledge of the medical school admissions landscape.
- Exceptional analytical skills with experience using data and CRM systems to drive strategy and forecast outcomes.
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including prospective students, faculty, senior leadership, and alumni.
- Strong experience leading and managing an admissions advising team of 10 staff.
- Must have experience selecting and presenting the right students to the Academic Admissions Committee.
- Ability to build strong relationships within the university with the Administrative and Academic teams.
- Ability to build and grow relationships and partnerships with other schools and the pre-med program.
Preferred:
- A proven track record of improving key metrics such as applicant pool quality, diversity, and yield rates.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing an operational budget.
