Student Support Specialist

The Student Support Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering student success by coordinating academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support services. This position works collaboratively with students, families, educators, and community partners to ensure that students receive the resources and interventions necessary to thrive in school.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Support & Advocacy

• Identify students in need of academic, behavioral, or emotional support through data analysis and staff referrals.
• Develop and monitor individualized support plans in collaboration with counselors, teachers, and administrators.
• Serve as a liaison between school, families, and external agencies to ensure wraparound services are in place.
• Assist students in adjusting to school environments, including transitions from hospitalizations, suspensions, or residential treatment.
• Conduct home visits when necessary to gather background information and support family engagement.
• Provide parent education and connect families with appropriate social service agencies.
• This position provides supplemental support beyond the core instructional program.

Behavioral & Attendance Interventions

• Support implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
• Monitor attendance data and coordinate interventions for chronically absent students.
• Facilitate restorative practices and conflict resolution strategies.

Collaboration & Communication

• Consult with teachers, counselors, and administrators regarding student welfare, behavior, and social-emotional needs.
• Participate in Student Support Teams (SST), Re-Entry meetings, IEP meetings, and 504 planning as needed.
• Communicate regularly with families to foster engagement and support student progress.
• Collaborate with external agencies (e.g., Children’s Division, Juvenile Court, mental health providers).
• Collaborate with school personnel to develop and implement plans for student behavior and support.

Program Development & Training

• Assist in developing school-wide and district-wide initiatives that promote mental health, equity, and inclusion.
• Facilitate referrals and coordinate services with outside agencies.
• Maintain confidentiality and safeguard student records and information.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all services provided, including student support activities, family engagement efforts, and coordination with external agencies. Prepare and submit reports as required by district administration and federal program guidelines to ensure compliance with Title funding requirements.

Qualifications:

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field.
• Experience working with youth in educational or support settings.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Valid Drivers License and ability to pass a background check.
• Reliable transportation

Preferred

• Master’s degree in counseling, education leadership, or social work.
• Missouri certification in counseling, social work, or administration.
• Experience with MTSS, PBIS, and restorative practices.
• Experience with Case Management or related service.  

Working Conditions:

• School-based environment with travel between buildings.
• May require evening meetings with families or community partners or attending school events.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
• May require evening meetings or home visits.
• Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.
