The Bilingual Student Support Coordinator serves as a vital link between the school district and families whose primary language is not English. This role supports student success by facilitating communication,  coordinating academic and social-emotional support, and connections to community resources for multilingual learners and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Support Coordination

  • Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and administrators to identify and address academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of bilingual/multilingual students.
  • Assist families in navigating school systems, including enrollment, transportation, special education services, and extracurricular activities.
  • Support students in accessing tutoring, mentoring, and other intervention programs.
  • Meet with students to assess needs and provide support.
  • This position provides supplemental support beyond the core instructional program.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Serve as a liaison between the district and non-English-speaking families to foster trust and engagement.
  • Organize and participate in multicultural and other events, parent workshops, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Provide culturally responsive resources and referrals to families.


Interpretation Services

  • On occasion, provide accurate and timely oral interpretation during parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, disciplinary hearings, and other school-related events when other interpreters are not available.
  • On occasion translate documents or communications when other translation services are not available.  
  • Maintain confidentiality and cultural sensitivity in all communications.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain records of translation and interpretation services provided.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations regarding language access and equity.
  • Track and report student progress toward academic and language proficiency goals in compliance with federal program requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all services provided, including student support activities, family engagement efforts, and coordination with external agencies. Prepare and submit reports as required by district administration and federal program guidelines to ensure compliance with Title funding requirements.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Fluency in English and at least one other language (Spanish preferred).
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, especially multilingual learners.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in educational settings or community outreach.
  • Knowledge of educational terminology and procedures, especially related to special education and student services.
  • Certification in interpretation/translation (or willingness to obtain).

Working Conditions:

  • May require occasional evening or weekend hours for events or meetings.
  • Travel between school sites within the district may be necessary.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, culturally diverse environment.
