What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ammonia Technician position at Nenni and Associates?
Our client is a well-known mechanical contractor who is looking to bring on an Ammonia Technician to help grow their Nashville presence.
Key Responsibilities:

Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair ammonia refrigeration systems (NH3) in accordance with PSM (Process Safety Management) and RMP (Risk Management Program) standards.

Conduct regular inspections and diagnostics of compressors, condensers, evaporators, valves, and pumps.

Monitor system performance and make adjustments to optimize efficiency and maintain required temperatures.

Respond to alarms, system failures, or emergency calls to minimize downtime and ensure safety.

Perform preventative maintenance on all refrigeration equipment per manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.

Maintain detailed logs and documentation of work performed, system readings, and incident reports.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and IIAR (International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration) regulations.

Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of PSM and RMP programs.

Work collaboratively with maintenance, operations, and safety teams.
Qualifications:
-
High school diploma or GED required; trade or technical school certification preferred.

Minimum 2–4 years of experience working with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.

Strong knowledge of industrial refrigeration principles, including PSM/RMP compliance.

RETA CARO or CIRO certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).

Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of control systems.
-
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (climbing, lifting, confined spaces, etc.).

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:

RETA (Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association) membership or certifications.

Experience in food-grade or cold storage environments.

Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and SCADA systems.
