Position description: Grant Writer

Reports to: Development & Communications Director

Term: 25-40 hours a week

Compensation: $22-26/hour DOE

Closes: Until filled

**Overview**

Neighborhood House is seeking a dedicated and experienced Grant Writer to support the organization's mission of strengthening local families and communities by addressing funding gaps and ensuring long-term program stability. The Grant Writer will research funding opportunities, cultivate relationships with foundation managers, develop compelling grant proposals, and manage grant compliance and reporting. This role plays a critical part in securing resources that sustain essential services for families in need.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Identify and research foundation, government, and corporate grant opportunities that align with Neighborhood House programs and mission to support family stability, education, housing, and community well-being.
  • Maintain a proactive pipeline of funding prospects to address program sustainability and funding gaps.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with all funding entities.
  • Attend all pre-proposal and technical assistance meetings in person when offered
  • Write, edit, and submit high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting materials that clearly communicate Neighborhood House's impact on local families.
  • Tailor proposals to meet funder priorities, guidelines, and deadlines while highlighting outcomes, community need, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with program and finance teams to develop accurate grant budgets and budget narratives.
  • Track grant-funded expenses and allocations to ensure responsible use of funds and alignment with approved budgets.

  • Support financial documentation required for grant reporting and audits.
  • Track grant submissions, awards, reporting deadlines, and renewal opportunities.
  • Prepare and submit progress and final reports that demonstrate program outcomes and family impact.
  • Ensure full compliance with funder requirements, grant agreements, and organizational policies.
  • Work closely with program, finance, and administrative staff to gather program data, outcomes, budgets, and supporting documentation.
  • Foster clear communication across teams to ensure accuracy and consistency in proposals and reports.
  • Contribute to Neighborhood House's overall fundraising strategy with a focus on sustainability and stability for families served.
  • Assist with prospect research, grant tracking systems, and continuous improvement of grant processes.
  • Provide recommendations to strengthen grant readiness and long-term funding success.

**Qualifications**

**Required**

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, nonprofit management, English, public administration, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit resource development
  • Strong writing, editing, and research skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work collaboratively across teams
  • Must be able to pass Child Care Licensing backgr

**Preferred**

  • Experience working in family services, community-based organizations, or human services nonprofits
  • Familiarity with government, foundation, and corporate grant processes
  • Knowledge of nonprofit budgeting and financial reporting
