Work Schedule: Routine weekday afternoon/evening hours for treatments, practices and events. Weekend Saturday event coverage required.

The athletic trainer will aid in the prevention and care of injuries, in the adjustment and fitting of apparel and in maintaining training supplies and equipment. The athletic trainer will work closely with the athletic director and coaching staff of each school.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

  • Promotes positive relations when interacting with patients, visitors, families, physicians, customers and co-workers.
  • Greet, smiles and makes eye contact.
  • Introduces self by name.
  • Volunteers to help co-workers and other employees.
  • Addresses patients and others by surname.
  • Responds quickly to patients and/or other peoples' needs.
  • Performs assessment and immediate care on a variety of athletic injuries to ensure safe, accurate care and treatment.
  • Provides assessment on athletes on initial visit at the athletic training room (sports eval) or on site at the sporting event.
  • Establish a treatment plan.
  • Establish an immediate treatment plan or first-aid to injured athletes while on site at sporting events.
  • Review medical records if appropriate.
  • Establish and implement a treatment plan to assure optimal recovery.
  • Base treatment plan on objective evaluation and achievable short and long term goals.
  • Treatment plan must be appropriate for the athlete.
  • Constantly re-evaluating the effectiveness of the treatment plan.
  • States appropriate treatment plan goals and time frames for athletes with the plan.
  • Provides athlete education to ensure understanding of the injury and treatment plan.
  • Educate each athlete and/or family and/or coach regarding the status and progress of treatment.
  • Instruct athlete, family and coach in appropriate exercise program and the use of ice/heat, taping, special pads, strength and conditioning.
  • Provides taping, padding, stretching, strength and conditioning as well as equipment fitting services to area athletes and coaches to optimize safety and prevent injury.
  • Establish types and methods of taping, padding, stretching, strength and conditioning and equipment fitting to be utilized by area athletes.
  • Properly serves as an athletic trainer to assigned athletic events for high school, college and other athletic contests as assigned to assure the safety of the participant in the event of an injury.
  • Provide athletic training services in accordance with standards already set.
  • Provide complete student/athlete documentation in athletic training room and onsite at various school affiliations/contracts, including initial evaluation, progress notes and discharge summary to assure accurate recordkeeping.
  • Prepares initial evaluation at athletic training room within 24 hours of evaluation.
  • Daily treatment records will be kept in our online sports management system (Sportsware).
  • Documentation is expected to be done and entered into sports management system within 24 hours.
  • Documentation to follow facility and state licensure requirements.
  • Provides patient progress reports to physician to ensure timely communication of the athlete's condition.
  • Updates physician both verbally and in writing as to the progress of the patient prior to discharge or the next physician office visit.
  • Follow QA requirements.
  • Maintain copies of progress notes on file.
  • Provides promotion of the hospital and participates in marketing programs to ensure departmental and Sports Medicine Program growth.
  • Participates in promotional activities and positively represents the sports medicine department and the hospital to the nursing staff, physicians and the public.
  • Markets the Sports Medicine Team by contact with coaches, physicians, athletic director and others at least once a month.

Schedule

Routine weekday afternoon/evening hours for treatments, practices and events. Weekend Saturday event coverage required.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) / Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from an accredited college or University.

License/Certifications

  • Athletic Trainer (AT) licensure for work state required.
  • National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Board of Certification Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) required.
  • Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required, Emergency Medical Tech (EMT) equivalent instead of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) accepted.

Experience

  • Knowledge of athletic training theory, methods of athletic training rehab, general operation of modern physical equipment, and medical terminology required.

Skills

  • Requires skills in assessment and recipe to take (Rx) of athletic injuries, time management and organization, athletic injury prevention techniques, and patient documentation.
  • Requires the ability to work independently, conduct research and carry through with new ideas on program development, adapt to changing environment, communicate with and interact with the public, physicians, coaches, hospital staff, etc.
  • Skilled in promoting positive relations when interacting with patients or other customers.
