What are the responsibilities and job description for the Admissions Director position at Nebraska Healthcare Recruiting?
Admissions Director – Skilled Nursing Facility
We are seeking a motivated and relationship-driven Admissions Director to lead facility-level marketing, referral development, and the complete admissions process for our skilled nursing and rehabilitation center.
This role is responsible for building strong relationships with hospitals, physicians, case managers, discharge planners, community partners, residents, and families while also ensuring every referral is followed through from initial inquiry to admission.
The ideal candidate is organized, outgoing, responsive, and understands that successful admissions require both strong community relationships and excellent internal follow-through.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strong referral relationships with hospitals, health systems, physicians, case managers, discharge planners, home health agencies, hospice providers, assisted living communities, and other referral partners.
- Conduct regular outside marketing visits and represent the facility professionally throughout the community.
- Respond quickly to new referrals and admission inquiries.
- Review and track referrals from initial receipt through final admission decision.
- Coordinate closely with nursing, therapy, social services, business office, administration, and other departments to determine clinical and financial appropriateness.
- Communicate consistently with referral sources, residents, and families throughout the admissions process.
- Obtain necessary clinical, financial, insurance, and demographic information prior to admission.
- Verify that authorization, payer information, required documentation, equipment, medications, transportation, and other admission needs are addressed before the resident arrives.
- Follow up on pending referrals and identify barriers that may prevent or delay admission.
- Coordinate the admission date and arrival time with the facility team.
- Ensure the facility is prepared for each new resident prior to arrival.
- Welcome new residents and families and help provide a smooth transition into the facility.
- Maintain accurate referral and admissions tracking.
- Monitor referral conversion rates, lost referrals, hospital relationships, census trends, and admission opportunities.
- Participate in daily census and admissions meetings.
- Develop strategies to grow Medicare, managed care, Medicaid, and other appropriate census.
- Maintain knowledge of the facility's clinical capabilities and effectively communicate those capabilities to referral partners.
- Identify opportunities to improve the facility's reputation, responsiveness, and presence within the local healthcare community.
What We Are Looking For
- Previous experience in skilled nursing, post-acute care, healthcare admissions, healthcare marketing, business development, or a related field preferred.
- Understanding of the skilled nursing referral and admissions process strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, managed care, and other healthcare payer sources is a plus.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate confidently with hospital leadership, case managers, residents, families, and facility staff.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple referrals and priorities at the same time.
- Strong sense of urgency and follow-through.
- Comfortable making marketing visits, developing new relationships, and asking for referrals.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and operational leadership.
- Professional, positive, and solution-oriented approach.
What Success Looks Like
The Admissions Director will take ownership of the entire admissions funnel:
Market → Generate Referrals → Review Referrals → Communicate → Remove Barriers → Coordinate Admission → Welcome the Resident → Follow Up
This position plays a key role in both the resident experience and the overall success of the facility. We are looking for someone who will build relationships in the community, stay on top of every referral, and ensure that appropriate residents have a smooth and timely transition into our facility.
If you are energetic, organized, relationship-focused, and enjoy helping families navigate the transition into skilled nursing and rehabilitation, we would love to hear from you.
