JOB SUMMARY: The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher teaches and fosters English language instruction, monitors and evaluates student progress, and promotes English language development to meet the diverse academic, linguistic, and cultural needs of multilingual students. The ELL Teacher maintains a safe, inclusive learning environment and collaborates with teachers, multidisciplinary teams, families, and community partners to promote student growth and achievement of language and academic benchmarks.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides evidence-based English Language Learner (ELL) instruction to individual students and small groups to develop English proficiency and support academic success.
  • Implements, adapts, and evaluates English language instruction based on student needs, progress monitoring, and assessment data.
  • Builds positive, culturally responsive relationships with students that foster engagement, confidence, belonging, and achievement.
  • Supports teachers through coaching, consultation, and modeling of effective instructional strategies, second language acquisition practices, and resources for multilingual learners.
  • Monitors, collects, analyzes, and communicates EL student progress data to inform instruction, program decisions, and student support.
  • Facilitates EL identification, placement, and assessment processes in alignment with Oregon Department of Education requirements and district procedures.
  • Promotes inclusive school practices that support student belonging, engagement, and positive peer relationships.
  • Collaborates with teachers, administrators, families, community partners, and multidisciplinary teams to support student academic, language, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
  • Coordinates parent and family engagement opportunities to review student progress and support EL program growth.
  • Develops and maintains accurate student records, documentation, and data systems in compliance with district policies, state requirements, and confidentiality regulations.
  • Participates in school-based data teams, student support meetings, parent conferences, special education/504 meetings, and collaborative planning sessions.
  • Supports and facilitates professional development for staff related to English language development, assessment practices, and instructional strategies for multilingual learners.
  • Maintains professional knowledge and skills through ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
  • Communicates regularly with students, families, and staff regarding student progress and program supports.
  • Maintains a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment that supports student success.
  • Demonstrates professional integrity by adhering to ethical educator standards, district policies, and state laws.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Board or administration.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Trains, monitors and assigns work to instructional assistants


MARGINAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Use of technology
  • Moves classroom furniture and organizes classroom
  • Coordinates and/or supervises at special events and/or field trips


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Holds a valid Oregon teaching license issued by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) or the ability to obtain licensure by August 2026.
  • Holds an English Language Learner (ELL) endorsement or the ability to obtain the endorsement.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish is preferred.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of culturally responsive instructional practices, language acquisition, assessment practices, and instructional requirements to support multilingual learners in accessing grade-level content and achieving Oregon academic standards.
  • Applies effective teaching practices to engage, and support students’ academic growth and language development.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply second language acquisition principles and evidence-based instructional practices to support English language development and academic success for multilingual learners.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and respond effectively, both verbally and in writing, to inquiries from students, families, staff, community members, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional literature, technical procedures, legal documents, and district, state and federal policy or regulations.
  • Ability to prepare reports, professional correspondence, instructional documentation, and procedural guidance
  • Proficiency in using databases, email, internet applications, spreadsheets, word processing, and other technology tools to support instruction and professional responsibilities.
