Job DescriptionPosition Summary
We are seeking an experienced Bridgeport Mill, Surface Grinder, and Lathe Machinist to join our manufacturing team in Sterling Heights, Michigan. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating manual machining equipment to produce precision components that meet customer specifications and quality standards. This position requires strong blueprint-reading skills, precision measuring experience, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced machine shop environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual Bridgeport milling machines, engine lathes, and surface grinders.
- Machine, modify, repair, and fabricate precision components from various materials including steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and plastics.
- Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
- Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Maintain dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements.
- Perform machine setups, tooling changes, and routine machine maintenance.
- Inspect completed parts to verify compliance with specifications and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Work closely with supervisors, engineers, and quality personnel to meet production schedules.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3 years of experience operating manual milling machines, lathes, and surface grinders.
- Strong understanding of machining practices, feeds, speeds, and tooling applications.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience with precision measuring equipment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
Preferred
- Tool & Die or Journeyman Machinist certification.
- Experience in aerospace, automotive, defense, or prototype manufacturing.
- CNC operation experience is a plus.
- Welding or fabrication experience is beneficial.
Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
