Aging Services - Bismarck/Mandan (telecommute) - Adult Protective Services (APS) Investigator
The North Dakota Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) is seeking an Adult Protective Services (APS) Investigator for its Adult & Aging Services Division in the Bismarck and surrounding area.
As our Adult Protective Services (APS) Investigator, you will help address the safety of vulnerable adults who are at risk of harm due to the presence or threat of abuse, neglect, or exploitation (ANE). You will be investigating reports of abuse, neglect or exploitation of adults 18 years of age and older or to minors emancipated by marriage with substantial mental or functional impairments affecting their health, safety or independence so that they may get the help or services they need to feel safe. You will conduct face-to-face interviews with vulnerable adults. You will work with many types of community, public and private providers on how to identify and report Abuse Neglect and Exploitation (ANE).
To thrive in this position, you must have the ability to assess complex situations and develop appropriate plans to ensure safety. You will use a person-centered approach and have a strong understanding of self-determination. You will need to convey information accurately, respectfully, and thoroughly both verbal and written. This role requires comprehensive interviewing and screening skills, as well as the ability to problem-solve in complex situations. You will build and maintain effective working relationships with community partners, including law enforcement, while working both independently and as part of a team. You will also use your knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and be able to prepare and provide testimony at civil, criminal, and administrative proceedings. You must be comfortable traveling on a regular basis and going into people's homes to conduct face-to-face interviews and provide training.
To be considered, you must have a bachelor's degree in social work, Gerontology, Criminal Justice, Nursing, Business administration, Counseling (including addiction counseling), Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Physical therapy, Public Health, or Sociology And Two (2) years of professional work experience providing services to Vulnerable adults and adult special populations.
You must have the ability to travel regularly, using a state fleet vehicle.

Location: ND HHS utilizes a blended workplace model. This position is located in the Bismarck-Mandan area. You must be willing to travel to other locations using a state fleet vehicle when available.
