Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The mission of the Department of Language and Literature at North Carolina Central University is to engage students in languages, cultures, literatures, linguistics, and writing. We foster students’ analytical and creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and communication strategies to prepare students for their responsibilities in civic and professional life. The Department of Language and Literature is responsible for teaching GEC courses in English, Foreign Languages, Humanities, and Philosophy. The department also houses degree programs in English, Foreign Languages, and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Primary Purpose of Position

To teach courses in First-Year English Composition and/or Technical Writing

Hold office hours for planning, grading, and meeting with students.

Most classes are taught in person; however, some online/distance education opportunities might be available.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

The position is for an English Adjunct faculty with an emphasis on classroom management and service to the department. Computer knowledge and willingness to train is mandatory. Use of University tools provided such as Canvas is required.

Minimum Education/Experience

M.A. in English or related field and 18 hours of graduate coursework.

2 years of experience teaching at the college/university level.
