General Summary:
Under general supervision, the Engineer will provide plans and prepares drawings for construction of new and removal or rearrangement of existing aerial and underground structures, lines, cables, and conduits. Analyzes traffic loads, available and existing lines, and forecasts or estimates projected traffic to determine new construction or rearrangements and removals required. Selects routing of lines and determines equipment requirements. Prepares detailed construction and installation drawings and estimates equipment, labor, and material costs. May supervise inspection of work orders and contract construction.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plans and prepares drawings and staking sheets for new construction, removal or rearrangement of existing aerial or underground structures, lines, cable and conduits.
- Ensures compliance with RUS and industry specifications by staking all lines to be built. Organizes and files necessary paperwork and staking sheets.
§ Analyzes traffic loads and forecasts projected traffic to determine required construction engineering projects.
- Selects routing of lines and determines equipment requirements as appropriate.
- Research and obtain necessary private and/or public right of way.
- Fiber optic network installation testing, maintenance and trouble shooting methodology and knowledge.
§ Prepares detailed construction and installation drawings and estimates equipment, labor and material costs.
§ May supervise inspection of work orders and oversee contract construction by negotiating contracts and verifying tabulation of contractor staking sheets.
§ Able and competent to operate GIS base applications.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned by management.*

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience plus three-five years of telecom engineering experience. Must have knowledge of and willingness to learn computer related skills necessary in the performance of duties. AutoCAD and/or experience a plus. GIS experience required.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit, stand, kneel, crawl, climb, stoop, lift, push and pull a majority of the workday. Positioning self to grasp, move and feel objects and the ability to observe details at close range while communicating information with others are necessary to the position.
Working Conditions:
The working environment is generally favorable but does require work in the elements. Unpleasant temperature, noise, dust, etc are present while working out in the field. Job involves sitting, walking and standing while maneuvering outside settings.
