The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applications for a part-time, assistant coach to oversee Men's and Women's Track and Field under the direction of the Head Track and Field Coach. The Assistant Coach of Track and Field assists in all aspects of the intercollegiate Track and Field teams including coaching, recruiting, program administration, operations, and budgeting. A strong focus is on year-round recruiting and in-season coaching. The applicant must have event specific experience in long distance, middle distance, sprints, hurdles, jumps, pole vault, and/or throws. Additional responsibilities may include administrative duties as assigned at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.

This position is heavily involved in outdoor activity and has periods of heavy exertion. Incumbents must have the following abilities:

Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required. Communicate both orally and in writing to issue, receive and carry out instructions and orders effectively and to convey information to a variety of co-workers and the general public. Employee must be able to observe and react to hazardous warnings, back-up alarms, flashing lights, voice commands and hand signals. To perform manual laboring duties such as lifting and carrying various weights. Setting up, operating, testing and measuring equipment. Work often requires stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing. Use a variety of common office machines such as telephones, calculators, copiers, computer terminals, keyboards, video display terminals, auxiliary printers and similar equipment. Operate office equipment which may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing. Provide assistance and guidance to internal and external customers. Follow oral and written instructions.

  • Bachelor's degree, and one year of coaching experience, OR
  • One to three years of professional coaching, or professional playing experience.
  • Experience and/or training regarding specific events (i.e. long distance, middle distance, sprints, hurdles, jumps and/or throws).

Candidates must have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.

Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well in the interview(s).
