Bullington Gardens is a non-profit 501©(3) organization that serves Henderson County and surrounding communities as a botanical garden and a center for horticultural education. North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, Cooperative Extension field faculty deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens.
Henderson County is in western North Carolina and is considered an emerging urban area, yet still has a large rural community. Nestled in the mountains, the county boasts a rich rural tradition combined with an urban flavor. This position is a full-time (0.9375 FTE), 37.5-hour-per-week position. The position is 100% funded by a combination of revenue from Bullington Gardens, the state, and Henderson County.

Requirements and Preferences
Identify if the Position is Mandatory / Essential / Key Not Applicable Work Schedule Monday - Friday 8:30am– 5pm business hours, with occasional flex hours to attend night and/or weekend events to support Bullington Gardens programs. Minimum Experience/Education
One of the following educational requirements: – A Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) in an agricultural or related field. The minimum GPA requirement will be waived for NCCE Program Associates with a Bachelor’s degree. – A Bachelor’s degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master’s degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field, or – Completion of a Master’s degree with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field.

Duties And Responsibilities

- Manage fundraising and member and donor relations, as well as obtain grants to support Bullington Garden’s operations.
- Conduct public speaking and outreach to the community. Use social media to inform the public about Bullington Gardens.
- Coordinate Bullington Garden’s activities with partners: NC Cooperative Extension, Henderson County Public Schools.
- Manage and collaborate closely with the Education Coordinator in supporting programs.
- Collaborate with volunteers by providing support and hands-on participation in sales and other fundraising events, which are primarily staffed and run by volunteers.
- Conduct day-to-day fiscal management, prepare and manage budgets, and ensure reports to government agencies are filed promptly.
- Inform the Board of Directors regularly, and work with the Board to expand and strengthen its capabilities.
- Shape the vision of Bullington Gardens and oversee the property. Along with the board, execute the Strategic Plan and update the Property Master Plan.
- Manage staff and volunteers.
- Maintain and strengthen the organization’s culture. Bullington has a warm and welcoming culture that is critical to its mission. All staff and volunteers respect and care for each other as well as for our visitors, students, and clients.
- The Director of Bullington Gardens receives direct supervision from the County Extension Director and receives direction from the Board of Directors of Bullington Gardens.
- Travel within the county is required; district and state travel are required occasionally.

Required License or Certification
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required and must be maintained. In order to operate a state vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required and must be maintained.
