Description Of Work

The NC Division of Services for the Blind provides services to individuals to eligible individuals who are visually impaired, blind or deafblind to assist them with achieving their goals of independence and employment. This position is a valuable member of the Director’s Office in Raleigh, NC who primarily supports the Division Assistant Director, Division Director and other office staff as needed. The Assistant is an integral part of coordinating many aspects of responding to internal statewide needs as well as responding to requests from the Department of Health and Human Services, the executive branch, legislative offices and the public.

This position’s relationship to the Director and Assistant Director requires the Administrative Specialist II to have excellent administrative, computer and communication skills. The employee needs to be very conscientious, detail oriented, organized and able to prioritize and re-prioritize as needed. Because this position is privy to a substantial amount of sensitive information, it is imperative that confidentiality is maintained for all applicable information.

Salary Range: $39,671.00 - $69,426.00

Recruitment Range: $39,671.00 - $60,000.00

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Provide excellent customer service in-person, via email, on the phone and through correspondence for the Director’s office, statewide staff, individuals receiving Division services, guests, Legislative and Executive branch staff and members of the public.
  • Respectfully and appropriately interact with individuals who are visually impaired, blind or deafblind as well as have additional disabilities.
  • Serve as a statewide resource on providers and services in the division’s online case management system and accurately key data in the system.
  • Assist with agency fiscal tasks according to required policies and procedures including use of the NC Finance System (NCFS), pcard purchases, travel reimbursements, and invoice payments.
  • Maintain agency records and reporting including the annual review and monthly updates of the Fixed Assets Inventory spreadsheet and Motor Fleet records.
  • Create and edit forms in Word, Excel and other programs as needed to ensure accuracy.
