The primary function of the Charge Nurse is to provide high-quality health and wellness assistance for the Stafford Hall residents in a positive, encouraging atmosphere. Principal responsibilities include facilitating the Sisters’ in following their individual health and wellness plans, evaluating the condition and needs of the Sisters, and providing professional assistance with health-related issues. The Charge Nurse is also responsible for supervising and evaluating the performance of assigned staff members while providing training and guidance on a continuing basis. These activities should contribute to the service team’s objective of meeting the health and wellness needs of the Stafford Hall residents with appropriate consideration for independence, comfort, sanitation, proper medical procedure, and personal dignity in harmony with the CSJ philosophy of aging.
The Charge Nurse is directed and supervised by the Health and Wellness Service Team Leader and the Motherhouse Administrator of Operations, but also accountable to the Motherhouse Administrator of Sister Services. This position involves supervision of Nursing Assistants and requires close interaction with physicians and other health care providers as well as the Food Service, Maintenance, and Housekeeping Service Teams.
1) Facilitating Stafford Hall Sisters with following their individual health and wellness plans.
2) Monitoring health condition of Sisters and providing or recommending appropriate treatment when needed.
3) Transporting Sisters to off-site medical appointments and/or the emergency room and communicating with health care providers as needed.
4) Administering and documenting medication as ordered.
5) Performing and/or assisting with medical procedures and resident mobility. Using proper technique in completing nursing procedures, resident transfers, and in the use of medical equipment and supplies.
6) Monitoring and assisting with nutrition and hydration within dietary restrictions.
7) Performing and/or assisting with administrative duties of the nurse’s station; updating charts, properly noting and carrying out physician orders, giving & receiving reports from physician offices, maintaining supply inventory and ordering supplies.
8) Giving and receiving shift report on each Sister’s condition; providing input for the plan of care.
9) Providing personal care and hygiene for Sisters; promoting comfort, safety and good health.
10) Performing or assisting Sisters with “household” chores, recreational activities, and housekeeping tasks.
11) Training, supervising, and evaluating Nursing Assistants as assigned; monitoring their compliance in following policies and procedures of NCAC and the Health and Wellness Service Team.
12) Complying with service team procedures including the Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan, and infection control practices.
13) Maintaining employment policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook, including but not limited to: proper use of the time clock, proper dress and grooming, rest breaks, and standards of conduct.
14) Working days and hours as assigned; attending in-service training, continuing education, and other required training sessions.
15) Being on call at assigned times and responding promptly when contacted.
16) Communicating effectively with and relating well to Sisters, medical providers, and other employees; effectively working as part of a team.
17) Maintaining confidentiality of Sisters’ medical information at all times.
18) Performing other duties as assigned.
Pay: $23.04 - $29.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32.0 – 40.0 per week
