Summary
This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Community Programs (N922) Branch; Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Recreational Fleet and Family Readiness Support Services (N94); Commander, Navy Region Hawaii, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (JBPHH), Honolulu, HI. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of duties in support of the MWR recreation program. The incumbent provides instruction on boating safety, sailing and windsurfing.

Major Duties:
Provides instruction on boating safety, sailing and windsurfing.Prepares lesson plans associated with sailing instruction for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. Teaches private one on one and group lessons with no more than 12 students per class. Teaches basic sailing skills, rules of the road; care and maintenance of sails, lines, safety equipment; defines storm signals, navigational aids and buoys.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Controls: Works under the general supervision of the Outdoor Recreation Manager. Works independently with minimal supervision under the confines of departmental and organizational guidelines, plans and policies. Refers questionable or unusual problems to Management.
Guidelines: Incumbent complies with prescribed procedures and follows oral and written instructions. Incumbent is able to keep up with the normal flow of work. All duties are accomplished in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner.
Complexity: Incumbent is expected to learn, apply and comply with procedures applicable to the day-to-day operations of the Outdoor Recreation Program. Incumbent is to put forth extra effort during busy periods. Incumbent must know the rules of the Harbor and provide accurate information to customers/students.
Scope and Effect: Provide accurate sailing/windsurfing instructions through individual and group lessons. Teaching individuals to respect and follow safety procedures at all times while in the water.
Personal Contacts: Incumbent will have one on one contact with customers/students in a safe and professional outdoor setting.
Purpose of Contacts: Incumbent will provide guidance and proper procedures to customers/students teaching sailing and windsurfing.
Physical Demands: Long periods of sitting and standing may be required. Pushing/pulling and manual labor required.
Work Environment: Incumbent works mainly outdoors with exposure to all environmental and weather conditions to include but not limited to wind, rain, storms, high waves, and unusual ocean conditions.
