- Timing: 4:30 AM – 12:30 PM / 5:00 AM – 1:00 PM / 5:30 AM – 1:30 PM
- Days: Monday – Friday
Pay Rate:
- $30 - $32 per hour
Job Overview
This role supports the efficient operation of the Pathology Department by performing a combination of technical and administrative duties, including specimen processing, accessioning, data entry, and clerical support to ensure accurate and timely patient results.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform specimen receiving, accessioning, and data entry in laboratory systems
- Provide clerical and administrative support, including answering calls, typing reports, and managing inquiries
- Retrieve specimens from operating room and laboratory areas, ensuring accurate patient identification and labeling
- Process and verify pathology and cytology specimens for accuracy and special handling requirements
- Track specimens sent to reference labs or external facilities
- Prepare and organize slides and materials for tumor boards, quality assurance reviews, and medical inquiries
- Package and prepare specimens for shipment
- Maintain logs and documentation for reference lab cases
- File, scan, and update patient and specimen records
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of lab work areas, equipment, and storage
- Manage slide and block filing systems and handle return mail
- Ensure availability of supplies, reagents, and laboratory materials
- Follow quality control procedures and safety protocols
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, staff, and visitors
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 1 year of lab-related, phlebotomy, or clinical support experience
or Associate’s degree in a health science field - Proficiency with computer systems and laboratory information systems
- Strong data entry, multitasking, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Typing speed of at least 30 WPM
- Experience with EPIC preferred
- Ability to handle specimens accurately and efficiently
