Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Pathologist Assistant / Pathology Technician to support surgical pathology operations. The role involves performing gross examination of specimens, preparing tissues for analysis, and assisting in maintaining efficient laboratory workflows in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform gross examination and dissection of specimens, including biopsies and complex surgical cases
- Prepare tissue for histological processing
- Section and process surgical pathology specimens
- Document macroscopic anatomical findings accurately
- Manage specimen accessioning, labeling, and fixation
- Capture gross and microscopic photography as required
- Review relevant patient clinical data (labs, imaging, history)
- Assist in training and supporting pathology residents in grossing techniques
- Maintain proper laboratory documentation and workflow standards
Required Qualifications:
Experience:
- 0–3 years of pathology-related experience (required)
- Minimum 1 year preferred
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a Pathologist Assistant program
- Program must be NAACLS accredited or equivalent (as per NYSED requirements)
Certifications & Licensure:
- Required: New York State Pathologist Assistant License
- Preferred:
- ASCP Certification (PA)
- Membership/Fellowship with professional pathology assistant organizations
Required Skills:
- Specimen processing and laboratory handling
- Gross dissection and anatomical description
- Knowledge of radiography and imaging review
- Ability to interpret clinical and laboratory data
- Strong documentation and workflow management skills
