Duration: 13 Weeks
Schedule: 40 hours/week | Night Shift | Rotating weekends & holidays
Shift Timing:
- 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
- 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Position Overview
The Laboratory Support Assistant is responsible for a combination of laboratory support functions and phlebotomy duties. This role plays a critical part in ensuring efficient lab operations, accurate specimen handling, and high-quality patient testing services. The position requires close collaboration with laboratory personnel and healthcare teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Specimen Collection & Phlebotomy: Perform or assist with blood draws; ensure proper patient identification, labeling, and handling of specimens
- Specimen Processing: Receive, verify, centrifuge, and prepare samples for testing or referral to external laboratories
- Data & Order Management: Accurately enter lab orders, update patient records, and manage test data within the system
- Lab Coordination: Communicate specimen-related issues (e.g., quality concerns, priority samples, add-on tests) to laboratory staff
- Logistics & Transport: Ensure timely transport of specimens within the facility and to external labs
- Patient & Provider Communication: Respond to inquiries and provide accurate information regarding lab procedures and test results
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, restock supplies, and maintain organized storage areas
- Quality & Compliance: Follow established safety protocols, maintain cleanliness, and support quality assurance activities
Qualifications
- Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
- Typing speed of at least 30 WPM
- Completion of Medical Terminology I or successful completion of facility test (80% or higher)
- Minimum 1 year of relevant healthcare or laboratory experience (e.g., CNA, PCT, Lab Assistant)
- Phlebotomy certification (preferred/required based on facility guidelines)
- Strong computer and data entry skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
