Position Title: Wheelchair Van Transport Attendant
Reports to: Operations Manager
Location: On-Route / Field
Shift: Part-Time, M-F, 06:30 am – 8:30 am & 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Compensation: $15.00/hour
Position Summary:
The Transport Attendant is responsible for accompanying the driver during student pickups, drop-offs, and through the duration of the trip. This role ensures the safety, comfort, and well-being of students throughout the trip while supporting compliance with company policies, client contract requirements, and applicable transportation regulations.
The ideal candidate is dependable, patient, and attentive, with a genuine concern for student welfare. This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe transport operations, providing an additional layer of supervision, and ensuring students arrive at their destinations safely and on time.
Key Responsibilities:
Accompany the driver on all assigned routes where a guardian or dedicated escort is not present with the student.
Assist students with safe entry and exit from the vehicle, including use of seat belts, harnesses, or child safety restraints as required.
Monitor student behavior and well-being throughout the trip, responding calmly and appropriately to any concerns.
Qualifications and Skills:
Patience, compassion, and a genuine interest in working with students and individuals with diverse needs.
Ability to remain calm and act decisively in emergency or high-stress situations.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, and assist students in and out of vehicles as needed.
Reliable attendance and punctuality to meet fixed route schedules.
Must pass background check, drug screening, and any client-required clearances.
Physical Requirements:
Lifting: Ability to lift 75lbs from the floor
Push/Pull: Capability to push/push 80lbs horizontally and at an incline
Hand Strength & Dexterity: Ability to exert up to the 50lbs of force with hand dynamometer
Climbing: Ability to climb steps
Kneeling: Ability to kneel and reach the floor
Sitting: Prolonged periods of sitting in excess of 2 hours or more
Requirements:
Valid Driver's License: Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Excellent Communication Skills: Exhibit effective verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with passengers, colleagues, and dispatch.
Responsible Vehicle Storage: Ability to store a company-designated passenger van with the Navarre Corporation logo at your residence.
Flexible Availability: Willingness to work various shift hours and assigned days to accommodate the transportation needs of our veterans.
Background Check and Drug Screen: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check with MVR and drug screen is mandatory for all candidates.
Vehicle Housing: Must have the ability to provide housing for a vehicle, preferably a commercial utility van, at your residence. The vehicle should also bear the company logo to maintain brand consistency and visibility.
Preferred Experience:
Prior experience as a bus monitor, transport aide, paraprofessional, childcare provider, or similar role.
Experience working with students with special needs, behavioral challenges, or medical considerations.
Current CPR, First Aid, and Passenger Assistance Safety and Sensitivity (PASS) certifications.
Work Environment Expectations:
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student and client information.
Consistent adherence to safety protocols, company policies, and documentation standards.
Professional communication with drivers, dispatch, parents, guardians, and client facility staff.
Ability to work in a vehicle environment for extended periods and in varying weather conditions during pickups and drop-offs.
