Job Summary
Wheelchair & Secure Transport Driver
EMS Team is seeking a dependable, professional, and safety-focused Wheelchair & Secure Transport Driver to provide safe, timely, and respectful non-emergency transportation.
This position includes transporting wheelchair, ambulatory, and secure behavioral health passengers between hospitals, healthcare facilities, behavioral health facilities, residences, and other approved locations.
The ideal candidate is compassionate, dependable, able to work independently, and comfortable working with individuals who may have mobility limitations, behavioral health needs, or require increased supervision during transportation.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate wheelchair-accessible vans and secure transport vehicles.
- Assist passengers with safely entering and exiting the vehicle.
- Properly operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement systems.
- Ensure passengers, wheelchairs, mobility devices, and belongings are safely secured before transport.
- Provide appropriate supervision during secure and behavioral health transports.
- Maintain awareness of passenger behavior and surroundings throughout transport.
- Use verbal de-escalation techniques when appropriate.
- Maintain professional boundaries and treat all passengers with dignity and respect.
- Communicate trip status, delays, concerns, or changes with dispatch.
- Follow established safety, secure transport, and emergency procedures.
- Complete required trip documentation, vehicle inspections, and incident reports accurately.
- Maintain passenger confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
- Keep assigned vehicles clean, organized, fueled, and ready for service.
- Report vehicle or equipment concerns promptly.
- Perform additional transportation-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must meet company and insurance driving requirements.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain.
- Must successfully complete required background checks.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or unpredictable situations.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Comfortable working with individuals experiencing behavioral health or emotional challenges.
