Summary

You will serve as a BOILER PLANT OPERATOR in the Public Works Department of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE.

Duties

You will perform operational maintenance on boiler plant equipment to maintain optimum function.You will make regular inspections (e.g., checking gauges, rate of fuel consumption, rate of steam) to ascertain boiler operating performance.You will direct junior employees in fueling, firing, steaming, and cleaning boilers.You will observe control systems to take precautionary measures (e.g., close valves, start auxiliary pumps, change or shut down boilers, secure precipitators) to prevent damage to equipment or injury to personnel.You will identify treatment and chemicals to control chemical concentrations, remove impurities, entrapped gasses, or to stabilize fluctuating boiler water conditions.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Knowledge and understanding of boiler systems and auxiliary equipment 2) Demonstrates experience in assessing and troubleshooting boiler system. 3) Ability to communicate boiler system requirements and repairs needed.4) Knowledge of water treatment procedures and water analysis. 5) Able to work in confined areas around boilers and support equipment. Moderate to strenuous effort with long periods of walking, standing, climbing, bending, and crouching. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. The position often requires irregular hours. This position requires rotating shift work. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.
