Summary

You will serve as a EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST in the PUBLIC WORKS BUSINESS LINE of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will conducts on-site safety, maintenance and Code compliance evaluations of boilers, water heaters, and unfired pressure vessels (UPV) located at Navy and Marine Corp activities.You will certify existing equipment for continued use, and shall recommend new installations for acceptance by the government.You will advise plant of maintenance personnel in writing, and in advance of any site visit, of the tests and operations to be conducted, safety precautions to be observed, and or their degree of participation during the evaluation process.You will review all plant operating logs, prior inspection reports, repair documentation, feedwater tests and treatment logs, etc. in order to evaluate the condition of the equipment and plant efficiency.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Understanding of mechanical equipment principles and concepts as applied to the design, construction, and operation of boiler plants, heating plants, power plants, power plant controls and auxiliary equipment; 2) Understanding of related electric, hydraulic, structural and pneumatic principals as they relate to boilers and unfired pressure vessels; 3) Understanding of inspection, test and evaluation methods, techniques and procedures sufficient to plan, direct and evaluate diverse equipment and systems under various climatic and environmental conditions; 4) Understanding of National Codes and Standards, and published Navy criteria relating to the construction, inspection, maintenance and operation of boilers, pressure vessels, and related equipment systems for which s/he is responsible for evaluation; and 5) Communicating verbally and in writing the evaluation process, inspection procedures, performance requirements, technical improvements/repairs, and operating standards relating to the equipment systems s/he evaluates. In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related A transcript must be submitted with your application if qualifying using education.
