Position Summary
A highly experienced Professional Surveyor (PS) licensed in the State of Ohio with a minimum of 25 years of progressive surveying experience to lead and oversee complex land surveying projects. This senior-level position is responsible for technical leadership, quality assurance, project management, regulatory compliance, and mentorship of survey staff. Shall have extensive expertise in boundary analysis, ALTA surveys, construction staking, right-of-way resolution, and public agency coordination.

Key Responsibilities
Professional Oversight & Compliance
- Serve as the Surveyor of Record and seal survey documents in accordance with Ohio Revised Code (ORC) Chapter 4733 and Ohio Administrative Code requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors standards.
- Oversee preparation and review of boundary surveys, ALTA, subdivision plats, legal descriptions, easement exhibits, property splits/combinations, topographic, and utility.
- Provide expert testimony and technical support for legal proceedings, boundary disputes, and title matters.
Technical Leadership
- Direct complex boundary determinations involving senior/junior rights, riparian rights, retracements, and title research.
- Review and certify ALTA Land Title Surveys.
- Provide technical guidance on geodetic control, coordinate systems (Ohio State Plane), GNSS surveys, and datum adjustments.
- Oversee topographic surveys, construction layout, utility as-builts, and infrastructure mapping.
- Implement and maintain QA/QC standards for survey deliverables.
Project & Client Management
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Prepare proposals, scopes of work, and fee estimates.
- Serve as primary client contact for municipal, DOT, utility, commercial, and private development projects.
- Coordinate with engineers, planners, attorneys, developers, and public officials.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Supervise field crews, CAD technicians, survey interns, and SITs.
- Mentor junior staff pursuing licensure.
- Lead training initiatives in emerging technologies and best practices.
- Foster a culture of safety, professionalism, and technical excellence.
Technology & Innovation
- Oversee use of GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, terrestrial scanners, UAV/drone mapping, and data collectors.
- Ensure proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, MicroStation, or related software.
- Guide implementation of LiDAR, GIS integration, and digital workflows.
Qualifications
Required
- Active Ohio Professional Surveyor (PS) License in good standing.
- Minimum 25 years of progressive surveying experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Extensive knowledge of Ohio boundary law and land records research.
- Demonstrated experience with ALTA surveys and complex boundary resolution.
- Strong understanding of public works and infrastructure projects.
- Proven leadership and client management experience.
Preferred
- Experience working with ODOT standards and municipal agencies.
- Multi-state licensure.
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
