Professional Civil Engineer (PE)

Position Summary

The Professional Civil Engineer serves as the point person for engineering. This position is responsible for ensuring engineering excellence, and fostering a collaborative, high-performance work environment.

This role emphasizes internal management, staff development, and process implementation to support sustainable growth and quality project delivery. This role combines high‑level technical expertise with business development, and operational management.

The Professional Civil Engineer will be responsible for maintaining client relationships, ensuring regulatory compliance, and building a high‑performing team capable of delivering high‑quality engineering services throughout Michigan and Ohio.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Business Management

• Assist in establishing the company’s mission, values, and long‑term strategic plan.
• Develop and implement operational systems, standard operating procedures, and quality‑control processes.
• Participate in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation reports.
• Participate in and assist with managing risk, insurance, bonding, and regulatory compliance for all operations.

Technical & Project Delivery

• Serve as Engineer of Record for civil engineering projects, ensuring technical accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Provide design oversight for site development, utilities, stormwater, roadway, and infrastructure projects.
• Review and seal engineering plans, reports, calculations, and permit applications.
• Conduct field reviews, site evaluations, and constructability assessments.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of state and local regulations, including zoning, environmental permitting, stormwater rules, and transportation standards.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

• Maintain relationships with existing clients as well as developing new business opportunities with municipalities, private developers, contractors, and partner firms.
• Prepare and present proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, and project schedules.
• Represent the company at public meetings, regulatory meetings, planning commission or other local government body hearings, and stakeholder sessions.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for engineering clients, providing responsive communication and strategic guidance.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio and/or Michigan (or ability to obtain reciprocity).
• Minimum 7–10 years of civil engineering experience, including project management.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong understanding of local, state, and federal permitting requirements.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and client‑relationship skills.

Preferred

• Background in surveying, construction administration, or municipal engineering.
• Experience with business development, proposal writing, and contract negotiation.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
