What are the responsibilities and job description for the Packaging Line Lead position at Natural Alternatives International Inc?
Summary
Primarily responsible for one or more packaging lines and staff assigned. Conducts in-process AQL inspections, handling and processing of batch records and documentation related to the packaging process in the NAI Packaging facility.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Works closely with supervisor to assure packaging lines are scheduled to plan and help coordinate staff
- Verify components staged and issued to batch are correct and complete
- Report any discrepancies to supervisor, Manager or Warehouse personnel in regards to materials staged for production
- Perform line preparations by creating shipper labels, expirations certifications, verifying lot coding format, etc.
- Verify line setup is complete prior to commencing with packaging production
- Calculate and perform in-process AQL inspections on one or multiple packaging lines per batch record standards
- Reports any in-process AQL failures or quality issue to supervisor, Manager or QA
- Completes documentation required and associated for a packaging production run
- Completes and reconciles packaging batch records at the end of a run and enter Report Operations Completed into Baan
- Performs line clearances for all packaging lines, packouts, reworks, etc.
- Assist supervisor with reporting efficiencies to the team and discuss any root cause/corrective actions
- Works closely with supervisor to strategize and meet performance standards, quality, productivity, efficiencies, reliability, initiative, safety and work relationships
- Attends daily production meetings with Planning department in absence of the supervisor
- Assures all Hours Accounting data is reported accordingly into Baan system
- Attends shift meeting with packaging staff provide productivity and efficiency
- Enter daily electronic shift report and update dashboard hourly performance/efficiency
Other Duties
• Authorization to sign off/approve lot coding format verification for OPS if needed
• If schedule has no requirement for In-Process AQL on a given day, employee will resume role of Operator I and its responsibilities associated with the position
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Required: High School Diploma or GED
• English literacy (be able to effectively understand, read, speak and write in English)
• Basic math skills; must be able to use a calculator and compute basic math equations
• Basic computer literacy (Windows, Excel, Word)
• Preferred: 2 years of experience in a Manufacturing/Packaging environment
• Preferred: Knowledge of cGMP

• Position requires the ability to stoop, bend over, reach and manipulate objects repetitively while standing for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs following the company's safety policy

• Excellent eyesight and general physical health is required
• Ability to physically respond quickly to developments on the production line
Training
• Must complete all required cGMP and EH&S Training Curriculum to include additional training in accordance to federal and state standards.
• May be asked to train new packaging personnel or temporary employee on the packaging process
• Must attend all department training sessions/meetings
Decision Making
• Must be able to make decisions during the packaging operation in order to avoid line downtime.
• Must be able to make the decision to stop a production line if rejected product is being produced and report to Management.
Communication
• Effectively communicate with co-workers, Management and support departments on a daily basis.
• Occasionally required to attend productions meetings and provide updates
• Occasionally required to communicate with Planning and/or Purchasing department.
Equipment Used
Various packaging/lines and ancillary equipment, hoists, pallet lifts, manual pallet jacks, powered pallet jacks, carts, trash compactors, etc.
Work Environment
• Mainly, the packaging area of the manufacturing facility where exposed to computerized equipment, moving mechanical parts, forklifts, pallet jacks, heavy pallets, moderate to loud noise level, and some air-borne dust and powders.
• While working, will be required to wear various Personal Protective Equipment, such as hair net restraints, face mask, gloves, uniform and safety glasses.
