What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at LEAD Staffing?
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team onsite in San Diego, CA. In this role, you will develop and submit labor and material estimates for Fixed Price and Time & Material requests for quote (RFQ). You will handle large-scale projects, analyzing complex specifications and request for proposals (RFPs) to prepare accurate time, cost, and labor estimates for products, projects, and services within the naval ship repair industry.
Essential Functions
- Possess a superior knowledge of all common marine trades and their capabilities (e.g., welding, outside/inside machinist, electrician, structural, pipe, rigging, etc.).
- Read, understand, and interpret Request for Pricing/Request for Quote (RFP/RFQ) solicitation documents to accurately convey requirements.
- Effectively interpret all types of blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, and work specifications.
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date contact listing of clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to facilitate timely submission of quotes and bids.
- Perform other estimating and project support duties as assigned.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience & Knowledge:
- Minimum of 4 to 8 years of experience in the ship repair or shipyard industry, preferably coming from a common trade background (e.g., Outside Machinist, Pipefitter, Welder, etc.).
- Extensive knowledge of ship repair specifications commensurate with ship-wide/multi-system repair initiatives and NAVSEA Standard Items.
- Comprehensive understanding of all ship systems, including propulsion, auxiliary systems, motors, power generation, fluid systems, and deck equipment.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong communication skills necessary to effectively interact with ship’s personnel, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, customers, and internal employees.
- Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures used in bid estimation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Salary: $80,000- $110,000 Depending on experience
