Job Title: Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) – Children & Youth Services Building
Department: Children & Youth Services
Reports To: Behavioral Health Director
Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt


SIGNING BONUS: $5,000 Sign On Bonus

 

Position Summary

The Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) at the Children & Youth Services (CYS) Building will support youth by providing comprehensive substance use disorder counseling and related services. This role involves conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, delivering individual and group therapy, and collaborating with families and community resources. The SUDP will focus on addressing substance use, mental health challenges, and promoting long-term wellness among youth in a culturally responsive manner.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling to youth experiencing substance use challenges.
  • Conduct intake assessments and develop individualized recovery plans.
  • Facilitate smoking cessation, relapse prevention, and wellness education.
  • Maintain accurate case records and treatment documentation in compliance with privacy laws.
  • Collaborate with families, school personnel, community partners, and external agencies to support integrated care and continuity of services.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case management meetings, sharing insights and recommendations.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to each youth’s needs and cultural context.
  • Offer crisis intervention and supportive counseling as needed.
  • Educate youth and families about the impacts of substance use and available support services.
  • Stay updated on best practices in youth substance use treatment through training and professional development.
  • Promote wellness and healthy lifestyle choices within the youth community.
  • Act as a liaison between the Children & Youth Services Building and community health services.
  • Engage in outreach and educational activities to build community awareness and support.

 

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field (social work, counseling, psychology, or similar).
  • State of Washington Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) license.
  • Experience working with youth in community-based or clinical settings.
  • Knowledge of community resources and substance use treatment specific to youth.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to engage with youth and their families.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of DSM criteria, ASAM Levels of Care, and youth-specific Evidence-Based Practices.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive care and promoting recovery-focused lifestyles.
  • Successful completion of background checks and pre-employment screenings.
  • Ability to move items up to 25-30 lbs and handle extended sitting.
  • Local travel capability to facilitate outreach and support.

 

Working Conditions

This position operates within the Children & Youth Services Building and requires regular interaction with youth, families, and community partners. Some local travel may be necessary to provide outreach and collaborative care.
