Location: NARA Northwest Adult Residential Treatment Center -This position will work from 17645 NW St. Helens Rd., Portland, OR 97231 through October 30, 2026, and will relocate to 620 NE 2nd St., Gresham, OR 97030 effective November 1, 2026, for approximately three years. Candidates must be able to commute to both locations.

Schedule: Full time, Thursday - Monday | 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM

Wage Range: $24.15 – $27.30 Hourly

Position Overview:

NARA is seeking a dependable and skilled Cook to prepare nutritious, homestyle meals in a residential treatment setting. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys high-volume, batch cooking and takes pride in creating quality meals that bring comfort and consistency to others. Working from established menus, the Cook prepares breakfast, lunch, and dinner service for residents, staff, and events while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, sanitation, and professionalism. What you will do:

• Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner 
• Homestyle and comfort-food menu items 
• Assist with food preparation for special events, meetings, celebrations, and client lunches.
• Serve in a cafeteria-style environment.
• Follow all food handling, sanitation, and safety standards.
• Maintain temperature logs and proper food storage procedures.
• Ensure accurate labeling, dating, and rotation of food products.
• Assist with inventory management and food supply ordering.
• Receive and organize deliveries.
• Complete opening and closing kitchen duties.
• Maintain clear and appropriate professional boundaries with residential treatment clients.
• Contribute to a positive dining atmosphere while treating all individuals with dignity and respect.

We would like to hear from people that have:

• Current Food Handler's Card
• Minimum one (1) year of cooking experience
• Knowledge of meal preparation, food safety, sanitation, and menu execution
• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 80 pounds
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes noisy kitchen environment
• Must pass a pre-employment or for cause drug tests.
• Must pass criminal background and DMV checks

Preferred:

• Experience cooking in:

  • Residential treatment facilities
  • Hospitals
  • School environments
  • Catering 
  • Cafeteria-style 
• Experience preparing meals in high-volume or batch-cooking settings.
• Familiarity with Native American and Alaska Native communities.
• Familiarity with NARA's mission and services.
