What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Nursing position at National University College?
The Director of Nursing shall have direct organization of the academic work, immediate supervision, and continuous development of the programs of study under their charge. They will direct, execute, supervise, and guide all functions and work of faculty under their direction and administrative personnel directly related to nursing.
Minimum requirements:
- Master's Degree in Nursing Science with a role in Administration or other areas related to Nursing Sciences.
- Valid Nurse Specialist license issued by the Board of Nursing Examiners of Florida.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in related areas.
- Possesses recent relevant teaching experience
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Supervise operations pertinent to the program(s) of study under their charge. Functions include supervising the work of the Faculty and administrative personnel directly related to nursing. Strengthen and promote the development, achieve and maintain academic excellence in the programs under their responsibility, and contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the operation to maintain accreditation standards and meet established programmatic outcomes.
- Direct or execute the tasks necessary to fulfill the institutional mission and philosophy, the Institution's Development Plan, and its departmental development plan. In addition, coordinate with other personnel and departments of the Institution those activities necessary or convenient for achieving institutional goals.
- Produce the reports required to ensure effective compliance with the services provided by the Institution.
- Guide and orient the Faculty on the programs of study they direct to facilitate and ensure that each professor under their supervision adequately complies with the duties and responsibilities established in this Manual.
- Supervises the professional performance of the coordinators and Faculty of the department they direct and ensures their attendance, punctuality, and rectitude in executing their teaching, tutoring, mentoring, academic counseling, student services, and dedication to the Institution.
- In coordination with the Dean of Academic Affairs or their representative, prepare and assign the work programs that, for each academic period, shall correspond to the professors under their supervision. The assignment of classes will be programmed considering the criteria of the educational preparation of the Faculty and the results of the evaluations of their performance and seniority in the Institution. Maintain the necessary documentation on these programs and ensure that they are correctly executed, both in quantity and quality, as well as in punctuality.
- Formulate, together with the Dean of Academic Affairs and the institutional authorities corresponding to each case, the preventive and corrective measures necessary and pertinent to the continuous development of the study programs supervised.
- Formulate and execute the necessary coordination measures for the conduct of activities of their department, such as the administration of standard or simultaneous examinations, conferences, practices, internships, demonstrations, workshops, research, films, field trips, and other activities with academic or training value for the student body, planned and conducted by institutional norms, procedures, and resources.
- Evaluate the professional performance of the Coordinators and Faculty in charge of the courses of their program of study. Such an evaluation process will follow the norms and mechanisms established in the Faculty Evaluation Plan.
- Recruit, interview, and hire necessary Faculty for available courses. Develop course offerings for each academic term.
- Assign courses to department faculty. Coordinate department activities at the Faculty and student level.
