What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manual Machinist position at National Tube Supply?
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Lathe Machinist to join our team at our Dover, OH facility. In this role, you will set up and operate manual lathes of various sizes to machine custom parts, with a heavy emphasis on machining high-quality mechanical tube parts. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, takes pride in high-precision craftsmanship, and can safely handle large-scale parts on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Set up and operate manual lathes and turning equipment to perform precision operations including turning, facing, boring, threading, and grooving.
- Component Machining: Produce high-tolerance parts from raw stock, castings, and heavy mechanical tubing according to exact engineering specifications.
- Blueprint Translation: Read and interpret technical blueprints, job orders, and manufacturing drawings to determine dimensions, tolerances, and optimal
- machining sequences.
- Quality Control: Conduct in-process inspections using precision measurement tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and dial indicators) to ensure parts conform to strict quality standards.
- Material Handling: Safely utilize overhead bridge cranes, hoists, and rigging equipment to load, align, and secure heavy metal tubes and components into the lathe chuck.
- Maintenance & Safety: Perform daily machine maintenance (checking fluid levels, clearing chips) and strictly adhere to all workshop safety guidelines and PPE protocols.
Qualifications & Skills
- Technical Mastery: Proven ability to perform machining operations on cylindrical parts.
- Measurement Skills: Highly proficient in reading precision measuring instruments and understanding tight geometric tolerances.
- Physical Capability: Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods on the shop floor. Experience with overhead crane operation is preferred.
- Reliability: Strong work ethic, punctuality, and a safety-first mindset.
