Case Investigator
Salary Range: $48,000 – $60,000 annually

Position Summary
The Case Investigator supports a DHS contract by conducting complex, sensitive investigations in accordance with federal laws, DHS policies, contractual requirements, and company procedures. This role is responsible for identifying, collecting, analyzing, and determining the evidentiary value of information collected by Field Investigators relating to assigned cases. The Case Investigator prepares detailed, defensible investigative reports for senior leadership and authorized government stakeholders and handles sensitive information, including HIPAA, PHI, and PII, in strict compliance with federal privacy and data protection standards. The position may include limited supervisory or case-coordination responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct complex investigative casework in support of DHS mission requirements and contractual obligations
- Collect, preserve, document, and analyze evidence in accordance with DHS standards, chain-of-custody requirements, and evidentiary best practices
- Evaluate the credibility, relevance, and sufficiency of evidence to support investigative findings and conclusions
- Utilize DHS-approved or contract-authorized databases, systems, and analytical tools to conduct research, data analysis, and case development
- Prepare accurate, comprehensive, and timely investigative reports, summaries, and recommendations for senior leadership and authorized DHS personnel
- Brief management or government stakeholders on investigative findings as required
- Handle, store, transmit, and safeguard sensitive and regulated information in compliance with HIPAA, PHI, PII, Privacy Act requirements, and DHS data protection policies
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to non-disclosure, information security, and access control requirements
- Manage assigned caseloads, prioritize investigative tasks, and meet contractual timelines and performance metrics
- Identify potential compliance issues, risks, or procedural deficiencies and elevate concerns through the appropriate chain of command
- Ensure all investigative activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, DHS directives, and company policies
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience conducting complex investigations or case-based analytical work
- Knowledge of investigative methodologies, evidence evaluation, and professional report writing standards
- Proven experience handling sensitive or regulated data, including HIPAA, PHI, and PII
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of leadership- or executive-level reports
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
- Proficiency with investigative databases, case management systems, or analytical platforms
- Ability to work independently within a structured, compliance-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in law enforcement, military, federal investigations, intelligence, compliance, healthcare investigations, or security
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain suitability or clearance as required by DHS contract
- Must comply with all DHS training, credentialing, and information security requirements
